Record levels of air pollution in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province and Pakistan's second largest city, forced local authorities to take emergency measures on November 10.

According to Channel NewsAsia citing data from the Lahore region and the Swiss air quality technology company IQAir, Lahore ranked first in real-time on the world's most air polluted cities on November 10.
Punjab's top official Marriyum Aurangzeb said the government had ordered primary schools to close for a week and 50% of office workers would work from home to reduce pollution from vehicles.
People are advised to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid unnecessary travel, Aurangzeb said. Local hospitals have also been equipped with smog meters.
