Sharing about her decision to grow red-fleshed jackfruit, Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Tin said that she was very concerned and researched the information carefully before deciding to convert 0.3 hectares of ineffective rice land to grow red-fleshed jackfruit.
Ms. Tin added that red-fleshed jackfruit is an easy-to-grow, low-maintenance variety. It takes about 2 years from planting to harvesting for red-fleshed jackfruit, much faster than other fruit trees.
In particular, this type of jackfruit produces large fruits, each weighing from 7 to 15 kg. In addition, the red-fleshed jackfruit tree can produce fruit all year round, so income is always guaranteed.
After nearly 2 years, the family of Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Tin, Kenh Giua Hamlet, Hoa Hung Commune, Giong Rieng District (Kien Giang Province) planted more than 200 red-fleshed jackfruit trees.
Currently, Ms. Tin's family's red-fleshed jackfruit growing model has brought in good income, with traders coming to buy right at the garden.
On average, each harvest, Ms. Tin cuts about 4 tons of fruit. Ms. Tin sells red jackfruit at an average price of 45,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, each crop she earns more than 160 million VND from the red-fleshed jackfruit tree.
However, the life span of a red-fleshed jackfruit tree is very short, not more than 10 years old. In order for the jackfruit tree to produce large, round, beautiful fruit, in addition to investing in fertilizing and spraying pesticides, she also actively prunes the branches, selects the fruit, and when the fruit is large enough, she proceeds to bag the fruit.
On average, every 10 to 15 days, Ms. Tin sprays pesticides on the red jackfruit tree to prevent pests and diseases and to increase nutrients for the fruit to grow well.
Her red-fleshed jackfruit growing model is being widely replicated by people in Hoa Hung commune, Giong Rieng district (Kien Giang province). This is a model that brings high economic efficiency, contributing to the development of the local economy.
