(Dan Tri) - The University of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney and Macquarie University are 3 schools in the top 10 list of Australia that sent letters of invitation to Tran Ngoc Thao Nhi, a student at Olympia High School.

Thao Nhi is in her final year of an integrated program in the US. She has received acceptance letters to three top universities in Australia with scholarships worth 10,000-13,500 AUD (about 158-214 million VND) for each academic year.

Thao Nhi has applied to a few more universities and has not received any results yet, but she has decided to go to the University of Sydney - top 2 best universities in Australia.

"In addition to the school's excellent training quality, the multi-ethnic and open-minded student community here makes me love it," the female student shared.

Thao Nhi's intention to study abroad in Australia started in 7th grade, after a 2-week summer camp trip in the land of kangaroos and she was strongly attracted by the pace of life and way of life of the indigenous people.

When she went to the US to study her final year of high school, Thao Nhi felt more clearly about the environment she wanted. Therefore, the female student only applied to schools in Australia instead of the US.

To realize her dream of entering the University of Sydney, Thao Nhi spent all her time preparing an ideal academic profile.

Australian schools do not focus on extracurricular activities but on academic results. Therefore, Thao Nhi only does a few small projects directly related to the business field she plans to pursue. For the rest, the female student tries to achieve a GPA above 9.0, IELTS 8.0 and SAT 1460.

Thao Nhi said that applying to study in Australia is not as stressful as in the US, however, Australian schools value academics so the level of competition is higher. The big advantage often belongs to students who study specialized subjects.

Talking about the reason for being admitted to the University of Sydney, Thao Nhi herself assessed that extracurricular activities could be a plus point in her application.

Inspired by her parents' passion for business, since 8th grade, Thao Nhi and her friends opened an online snack store.

They made their own plans, opened online sales channels, purchased raw materials, processed products, and planned income and expenses. Initially, Thao Nhi and her friends only sold snacks, but when they received support from many friends, they also sold accessories such as hair ties, hair bows, etc.

Thao Nhi consulted her parents about how to calculate revenue and how to bring her brand to more customers. As a result, her online store brought in significant profits.

"Although I haven't been in business for long, the experience of selling online has fueled my desire to become an operator and manager of my own business," Thao Nhi confided.

In addition to her "start-up" project in 8th grade, Thao Nhi also showed her strength in the field of communications. In 9th and 10th grade, Thao Nhi was the Head of the Communications Committee of her grade. In 11th grade, she was the dance director and communications consultant for the English musical project "The Hunchback of Notre Dame".

Thao Nhi's parents also often consult their daughter when they need to carry out a communication campaign for the company, such as building messages, social media communication, designing publications, etc.

The Vietnam-US integrated program that Thao Nhi has been studying since grade 9 has also helped nurture her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Every month, students studying the integrated program will go on field trips to businesses, not only to learn more about the industry and field in which the business operates, but also to gain more direction for their future careers.

For Thao Nhi, these business experience trips help her visualize business activities in many fields more clearly, gain more practical knowledge about the market and accumulate some lessons on coping with economic changes.

From her preparation for studying abroad, Thao Nhi gives advice to students who do not study at specialized schools but still want to study abroad in Australia: "Try to maintain a high GPA, ideally above 9.0. You also need to prepare for IELTS at least 6.5 and SAT 1200. However, if you want to enter a top university, SAT should be higher than 1400".

According to the female student, although some schools do not require extracurricular activities, this item should still be included in the application. The extracurricular project should be directly related to the field of application.

"The important thing is, extracurricular activities will help you discover yourself, help you accumulate valuable experiences, organizational skills, time management, confidence and a deeper understanding of life. That is the luggage you need for your future study abroad journey.

Furthermore, universities also want to see in candidates qualities of dedication and concern for the community and society," Thao Nhi emphasized.

Thao Nhi is applying for the major of Commerce. She plans to major in Business Administration and minor in Marketing. Her plan after graduation is to work for about 3 years in Australia to gain experience and challenge herself before returning to Vietnam to develop her family business.
