AFP news agency said this was the deadliest attack on the center of the capital Beirut since Israel intensified its bombing campaign two weeks ago.
"Israel carried out an attack in Beirut, targeting a building near the Khatam al-Anbiya complex in Nweiri, and another in Ras al-Nabaa near the al-Amiliyah building," the Lebanese national news agency said.
According to initial information, in Basta district, where residents are mainly Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims, two old four-story buildings collapsed.
Casualties are expected to rise, as witnesses told CNN the bomb hit a building with "a lot of people" inside, including residents and people evacuated from other places due to the conflict.
Israel has repeatedly bombed the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, over the past two weeks. The attack on the evening of October 10 was the third time the city center has been targeted.
According to Al Jazeera news agency, chaos is taking place in the center of the capital Beirut, which was attacked by Israel, when surrounding hospitals reported being overloaded, people running away, screaming and injured.
This is where some 700,000 migrants from the capital's suburbs, which are under constant attack by Israel, take refuge.
Israel has not yet commented on the incident.
