Pilots train "king cobra" SU-30MK2 at Defense Exhibition

(Dan Tri) - In preparation for the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024, veteran and experienced pilots of Division 371 have continuously conducted training flights in the sky above Kep airport and Gia Lam airport for the past week.
The 2nd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 will take place from December 19 to 22. At the opening ceremony, the Vietnam Air Force will perform a welcome flight with 10 SU-30MK2 fighters and 10 helicopters of various types such as Mi8, Mi171 and Mi172 belonging to Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force. According to Dan Tri reporters, over the past week, in preparation for the opening ceremony of the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024, SU-30MK2 fighters at Regiment 927 (Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force) have been continuously deployed to the flight path to perform joint training missions in the air. Before each flight, the technical team must be present early to prepare and check the techniques and machinery to ensure the aircraft operates stably during the mission. The command board and pilots have been discussing the SU-30MK2 training flight plan for the past week. Pilots must have a medical examination before flying. Only when they are healthy can they perform flying duties. Lieutenant Colonel Vu Duc Hung, Deputy Regiment Commander, Chief of Staff of Regiment 927 (Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force) and his teammates will carry out meteorological reconnaissance flights in the training area. When all technical factors, pilot health, and weather conditions are guaranteed, pilots will board the SU-30MK2s to conduct training flights. The pilots selected to perform at the Defense Exhibition come from Air Force Regiments 927 and 923 (Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force Service). They are "masters" with extensive flying experience and good coordination in each exercise. When all conditions are guaranteed, each batch of SU-30MK2 fighters is brought to the runway, taking off individually or in formation (2 aircraft at the same time). In a formation of 3 aircraft, 2 aircraft will take off first, the remaining aircraft will take off immediately after and practice in the correct formation in the sky. The SU-30MK2 fighters then gathered in formation in the air, moving to Gia Lam airport (Long Bien, Hanoi) in formations of 3 and 4 aircraft. Different from the flight demonstration at the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2022, at this year's exhibition, the fighters will perform more unique acrobatic and performance moves.
Similarly, the formation of 4 SU-30MK2s will be divided into 2 pairs when flying and will form 4 when flying high. According to Lieutenant Colonel Vu Duc Hung, who will participate in the flight demonstration for the second consecutive time at the National Defense Exhibition, in order for the formation of 4 SU-30MK2s to achieve the highest efficiency, there needs to be meticulous coordination and cooperation between the flight commander and the pilots, between the numbers in the formation, the front and back cabins, so that each flight is a time to accumulate experience and affirm one's own level.
Just a few minutes after taking off from Kep airport, the SU-30MK2s were present in the sky of Gia Lam airport (Hanoi) according to the flight plan (Photo: Thanh Dong). After performing a demonstration flight at Gia Lam airport, 7 SU-30MK2s returned to Kep airport (Bac Giang), ending the day's training flight mission.
