Terrifying mysteries of the ocean that haunt humans

Undersea volcano

VOV quoted the marineinsight.com website as saying that there are a number of active volcanoes in the world, which often disrupt the surrounding life. The seabed also sometimes witnesses similar volcanic eruptions. According to documents, the ocean has the largest volcanic system on Earth, most of which lie at an average depth of 2,600m below sea level. An estimated 75% of the annual lava volume is created through underwater vents or cracks in the seabed.

While most active submarine volcanoes are located in deep water, a few are in shallow water, often revealing their presence by ejecting lava high above the surface. Scientists estimate that there are more than 1 million submarine volcanoes, and of these, a few rise more than 1 km above the sea floor during eruptions.

Sculpture Park in Molinere Bay

The Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park is located just off the west coast of Grenada. While this underwater attraction is unique, it is also quite creepy.

A tour of the strange underwater world will show people where sculptures such as 'The Vicissitudes', a piece featuring 26 Grenadian children holding hands to form a circle, are on display.

Ocean mysteries haunting mankind - 1

The ocean holds many mysteries.

Underwater cemetery

The world's only underwater cemetery called 'Neptune Memorial Reef' is located just off the coast of Florida, USA and features intricately constructed cement columns and lion statues.

When the ashes are placed here, the family of the deceased can still visit, but the journey is a bit more 'cumbersome'. After traveling by boat, they will go snorkeling. Located at a depth of 15 meters, the cemetery grounds are designed not much different from those on land, with a gate opening to the entrance.

The rock stands tall in the ocean

Rockall – a 30-metre-wide rock that stands in the middle of the ocean, 280 miles off the coast of the UK – has only ever been visited by fewer than 20 people. But the mystery of the island is that it has been the site of numerous unexplained shipwrecks.

Sea Monster

Sea monsters may actually exist. It is estimated that about 86% of the animal species on Earth have yet to be discovered. Who knows, maybe some of them are real monsters.

Until 2001, a giant squid was thought to be a terrifying mythical creature.

To date, we have only explored 5-7% of the ocean floor, and 1% of the ocean itself.
