Then, the friend suggested that Mr. C. go to Zalo to scan the QR code to “like” and share to vote for his nephew. Without any doubt, Mr. C. did as he was told and went to sleep.

The next day, he was surprised to see many acquaintances calling to ask about Mr. C. borrowing money from them. The acquaintances said that he had texted them via Zalo to ask for a loan. Some friends had transferred 5 million VND to the account number that Mr. C. sent them via Zalo message.

Surprised to check Zalo, Mr. C. could not log in anymore. At this time, he realized that his Zalo and Facebook had been "hacked". His rights to use were taken after scanning the QR code to participate in voting for a painting contest. The subjects impersonated him to send messages to trick relatives and friends into borrowing money.

TVD, also in Phu Ly City, received a video call from a friend's messenger for about 15 seconds. Then the friend hung up, saying there was a network error, and then texted him to ask for a loan.

After transferring the money, Mr. D. was shocked to learn that his friend's Zalo and Facebook had been "hacked" by criminals to defraud and appropriate his property.

Regarding the above behavior, Lieutenant Colonel Truong Duc Huong - Head of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Ha Nam Provincial Police) said: The online scammers are all qualified and knowledgeable about information technology.

They use specialized software and equipment to attack social network accounts such as Zalo and Facebook. They take over the account to access the friend list, from there send messages asking for loans, asking for money transfers to appropriate assets.

The accounts that the subjects choose, steal, and take control of often have simple, easy-to-remember passwords.... After taking control of Zalo and Facebook accounts, the scammers focus on researching personal information, interests, chat history, and how they talk to friends and relatives.

After completing the research, the scammers ask for help, with common content such as: Having difficulty or saying they need to borrow money, asking to buy things, buying phone cards and then appropriating property...

From the above information, Lieutenant Colonel Truong Duc Huong warned that people need to raise their vigilance when participating in activities on cyberspace, especially Zalo and Facebook.

This person noted, absolutely do not enter personal information into untrusted website addresses. It is necessary to increase the security of Zalo and Facebook account passwords such as: 2-layer password authentication via phone number, use passwords with at least 8 characters including letters, numbers, and special characters.

When someone asks to borrow money or transfer money, call that person's number to check and verify whether it is your friend who needs to borrow or not.

In addition, when using social networks, people need to be vigilant, absolutely do not share passwords and personal information such as occupation, date of birth, and check-in addresses.

In addition, people need to be wary of strange accounts, foreign accounts, accounts that actively invite friends, and do not provide personal information.

In addition, do not transfer money without checking and verifying the recipient's correct information, especially in the case of money transfers, phone card top-ups, and online shopping.

When detecting signs of fraud, it is necessary to quickly report to the police to verify, promptly handle the case, and arrest the subject.
