Students are immersed in the story and characters, turning the content of the book into vivid performances through storytelling combined with dramatization. Moreover, from each story, students can relate to reality and draw meaningful lessons. That is the highlight of the Children's Storytelling Contest based on books, contributing to arousing the passion for reading and building a reading culture for students.
Storytelling contest based on books by students of Cu Chinh Lan Secondary School (Thanh Hoa City).
Attending the Children's Storytelling Contest (called the contest for short), organized by the Provincial Library, everyone got to hear familiar stories about heroes, historical figures, tragic stories about the theme of war, love for homeland, country... in a new form, through the emotional and vivid narration of the students. Not only that, the messages and lessons that the children associated with the stories have become valuable lessons for the younger generation.
Bringing to the contest, students from Cu Chinh Lan Secondary School (Thanh Hoa City) told stories about national hero Trieu Thi Trinh - a character mentioned in the book Thanh Hoa Celebrities, volume 1, by the group of authors Hoang Tuan Pho, Van Lang, Nguyen Anh, published by Thanh Hoa Publishing House. The story of heroine Trieu Thi Trinh and the Ba Trieu uprising was told by the students with an emotional, heroic voice combined with the form of dramatization, sound, and vivid props, making the details of the story easy to remember and easy to touch people's hearts.
Participating in the storytelling contest, Cao Phuong Ngan, class 8D, Cu Chinh Lan Secondary School, said: “To prepare for the contest, I searched for and explored the book Famous People of Thanh Hoa. Along with that, I read books and documents about the heroine Trieu Thi Trinh and the Ba Trieu uprising to gain more understanding and better feelings about the character and the story I will tell. After participating in the contest, I realized that I need to make an effort to study, actively self-study, self-train, especially practice reading to improve my skills and knowledge, worthy of being a descendant of the hero Trieu Thi Trinh”.
As for Nguyen Hoang Linh San, class 7H, Cu Chinh Lan Secondary School, participating in the story-telling contest based on books has given him many interesting experiences. Nguyen Hoang Linh San said: “I read the book Thanh Hoa Celebrities in about a week. The book has helped me understand more about the history of the nation, knowing that our ancestors were brave and intelligent in fighting foreign invaders, bringing peace to the country. Through the story of the heroine Trieu Thi Trinh, I have learned a lesson about courage and determination in everything.
Principal of Cu Chinh Lan Secondary School, teacher Le Thi Hoa said: “The contest is a useful playground for students. Coming to the contest, students not only immerse themselves in the pages of books but also learn about many other books through the performances of other teams. This has encouraged students' passion for reading and reading habits. Realizing the influence of the book storytelling contest and reading promotion activities, Cu Chinh Lan Secondary School has also encouraged students and teachers to actively read books. Each class builds a bookshelf. Students are all invited to contribute books and build a book model for their class. The school also organizes a contest to display and introduce books, and tell stories based on books in the school for students, teachers and parents to participate. Thereby, raising awareness among teachers, students and parents about the role of reading and reading habits”.
Coming to the contest with the story telling about the book “Folk legends about Le Loi and the Lam Son uprising in Thanh land”, the Department of Education and Training of Tho Xuan district won the excellent prize. The contest was performed by 25 students in a lively and heroic manner, highlighting the spirit, will, and extraordinary determination of the National Hero Le Loi and the stature of the Lam Son uprising.
Talking about the Children's Storytelling Contest, Deputy Head of the Tho Xuan District Department of Education and Training, Trinh Thi Tien, said: "Realizing that the Children's Storytelling Contest is a meaningful activity that contributes to building and developing a reading culture in schools, the Tho Xuan District Department of Education and Training has implemented a plan to organize the contest in all schools in the district; encouraging schools to actively participate in the contest. After that, the department coordinated with the schools to select students to participate in the contest. Participation in the contest has spread the reading movement in schools, contributing to arousing students' passion for reading."
Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Provincial Library, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, said: “The contest attracted primary and secondary school students from 27 districts, towns and cities in the province. Coming to the contest, students have the opportunity to show their talents, learn more knowledge and skills. The contest also contributes to maintaining and developing a reading culture in schools and communities, serving the lifelong learning needs of each individual, contributing to raising awareness of self-study, self-training, improving the quality and effectiveness of education”.
