According to information from the Central Council for the Protection of Officials' Health, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away at 1:38 p.m. on July 19, 2024. In response to the General Secretary's passing, many social media users changed their profile pictures and cover photos, and wrote status lines expressing their grief and sorrow.
In the general atmosphere of grief across the country, some content creators have announced that they will temporarily stop posting video clips or organizing livestreams on social media platforms.
SChannel Network, a content creation network with more than 50 KOLs (Knowledgeable Online Persons), 70 channels on various platforms and about 30 million followers, will stop posting entertainment and commercial videos on TikTok and YouTube platforms. The unit will also stop posting entertainment and commercial articles, images and videos on fanpage platforms and personal social networking pages of its members.
Mr. Nguyen Lac Huy, CEO of SChannel, said that the suspension of posting entertainment and commercial content on channels in the system will be implemented until the end of the State funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
“This decision is the consensus of all members. Everyone understands that the General Secretary’s passing is a sad event for the whole country and people. With this small action, we want to express our gratitude and respect for the General Secretary’s lifelong dedication,” said Mr. Nguyen Lac Huy.
Faced with the difficulties and losses from having to cancel advertising schedules, affecting partner events, Mr. Huy said that most parties understand and sympathize with SChannel's decision.
As one of the content creators who announced that he would stop posting videos and articles with entertainment and commercial content during the national mourning, Mr. Ngo Duc Duy (who owns a channel on 2 platforms with more than 10 million followers) said that the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong brought great sadness and loss.
“Canceling events or suspending or terminating contracts with partners is not an important issue at the moment. Temporarily stopping posting all entertainment and commercial content on all social media accounts is my way of using my small influence to join the younger generation in expressing gratitude and appreciation for the life and career of the General Secretary,” said Mr. Ngo Duc Duy.
Dang Thu Ha, a KOL who owns a channel with nearly 4 million followers, said that temporarily stopping posting entertainment and commercial content on social media platforms at this time is necessary and should be done to express deep condolences to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
“The General Secretary devoted his whole life to the Fatherland. I would like to express my respect, gratitude and sincere gratitude to a great personality,” Dang Thu Ha shared.
According to VJ (show host) Trinh Ha Vi, posting videos with entertainment content is not appropriate at this time. “The grief and respect for the General Secretary is something not only us, but also the people of the whole country are looking forward to. Therefore, temporarily stopping our small jobs to express great gratitude to the General Secretary is something we want to contribute,” Vi said.
Also on the evening of July 19, a number of famous content creators such as MC Quang Minh, Quang Linh Vlogs, and Hang Du Muc announced that they would temporarily stop posting video clips on YouTube or cancel their livestream sales schedules on TikTok.
