In March 2025, in Ha Long City, there were many green volunteer shirts joining people in environmental protection with many key activities such as collecting waste in coastal areas; propagating to raise public awareness about environmental sanitation... Mr. Nguyen Dang Huy, an officer of the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Monitoring (Department of Agriculture and Environment), head of the "For a Green Ha Long" Group, said: Every week, the "For a Green Ha Long" group maintains garbage collection activities along the beach in Ha Long and flower parks. Group members are of many ages, genders and with many different occupations. All have one thing in common: loving nature and wanting their hometown to be cleaner and more beautiful. It is expected that in the near future, the group will go to schools and coordinate with teachers to organize propaganda for students about environmental protection.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Khanh (specialist of the Movement Board, Quang Ninh Provincial Youth Union) said: If in the past, many environmental protection activities were mainly of a movement nature, carried out according to a pre-determined plan, now you have become much more proactive. Environmental protection awareness does not stop at superficial activities but has become a habit and responsibility of each person.
Nguyen Van Ngoc Duc (12A2 grade student, Bach Dang High School, Quang Yen Town) won second prize at the 2024 Rural Youth Startup Project Competition with the project "Smokeless, dust-free votive paper incinerator". With a closed burning process, votive paper only needs to be put in the furnace, closed, turned on the power and burned without releasing smoke or dust into the environment. Duc's creative startup idea is one of many achievements showing that Quang Ninh has been actively promoting young people to come up with breakthrough solutions in environmental protection.
Besides this project, many other projects in the competition also left their mark, such as producing straws from sedge, processing biochar from agricultural waste, inventing smart trash cans to classify trash right from the source... Many initial startup ideas have now been realized, developed into sustainable business models, not only creating economic value but also contributing positively to the community. A typical example is the Family Ecozone community tourism project piloted by Mr. Nguyen Van Truong (Hai Lang commune, Tien Yen district) right in his hometown, which is both valuable in promoting and introducing the indigenous culture of Tien Yen, and is close and friendly to the environment.
Traveling about 5km from the center of Tien Yen town, visitors can experience 20 hectares of mangrove ecosystem with many activities such as fishing, netting, catching snails...
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Truong, Family Ecozone's production activities are completely organic, and tourist experiences are 100% natural farming, without the use of chemicals or industrial machinery to ensure the current state of the tourist landscape. "We still maintain the planting of large trees and fruit trees to create green space. At the same time, the wastewater system is collected and treated with microbiological technology before reuse, minimizing negative impacts on the environment," said Mr. Truong.
Ms. Dao Thi Mai Thinh, Secretary of Tien Yen District Youth Union, said: Family Ecozone community tourism is a very new direction, in line with the development orientation of Tien Yen's community tourism, while making good use of natural conditions and available ecosystems, meeting the needs of experiential tourism that is increasingly popular. "Tien Yen District Youth Union is developing 3 to 5 similar community tourism models and gradually forming close links in tours for tourists when coming to Tien Yen district".
To continue promoting initiatives, Quang Ninh Provincial Youth Union has implemented many programs to support green youth startups, notably the Creative Startup Ideas Competition, cooperation with businesses and investment funds, as well as building a network connecting youth startup groups, to help and replicate successful models.
