Representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam have just informed about the booking situation and domestic airfares for the Lunar New Year 2025. Accordingly, during the beginning of the holiday period (from January 21 to January 28), the booking rate on flights from Ho Chi Minh City to other localities is increasing rapidly and is almost full.
Some routes have reached 100% booking rate, such as: Hanoi - Buon Ma Thuot, from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, Buon Ma Thuot, Quang Binh, Thanh Hoa, Vinh...
At the end of the holiday period (from January 30 to February 7), the booking rate increased sharply on flights from the local area back to Ho Chi Minh City, in which, some days on the routes had booking rates reaching or approaching 100%. Accordingly, flights from Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Quy Nhon, Chu Lai, Dong Hoi, Ban Me Thuot, Vinh to Ho Chi Minh City were almost fully booked.

Tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to the North are sold out, and 0 VND tickets appear in the opposite direction.
A survey of airfare prices shows that during the Lunar New Year, before the holiday, airfares for many routes from Ho Chi Minh City to the provinces were listed at high prices by airlines, and many routes were even "sold out" in economy class.
Specifically, on January 22, 2025 (ie December 23 of the lunar calendar), the basic economy class ticket price from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Vinh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa is currently listed by airlines at about 2.9 million VND (excluding taxes and fees).
Meanwhile, on January 25 (the first day of the holiday), many flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang, Hue, Nha Trang, Thanh Hoa, and Vinh were all "sold out".
However, due to the high demand for travel back to hometowns to celebrate Tet in the Northern provinces, airlines have to operate many empty flights (ferries) from the Northern and Central provinces to return to Ho Chi Minh City, so the ticket prices in the opposite direction from provinces such as Buon Ma Thuot, Hue, Thanh Hoa, Pleiku, Dong Hoi, Chu Lai, ... to Ho Chi Minh City are showing a clear opposite price trend.
Specifically, on January 22, January 25, and January 27, 2025 (December 28), on these routes, both Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air listed much lower prices, starting from only 90,000 VND.
Typically, on flights from Hai Phong, Vinh, Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, VietjetAir offers promotional fares starting from 0 VND. Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines also offer attractive fares starting from 25,000 VND on flights from Da Nang, Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
