In order to facilitate the development and replication of highly effective economic models, specialized agencies of Yen Lap district and organizations and unions such as the Farmers' Association, Women's Association, Veterans' Association, Youth Union, etc. have helped members borrow capital, learn from experiences, and build production chains. From there, arouse the will to be self-reliant, self-motivated, and rise up, avoid the mentality of waiting, and help poor and near-poor households escape poverty sustainably.

Replicating economic models

Thanks to the expansion of the cinnamon growing model, hundreds of households in Trung Son and Thuong Long communes of Yen Lap district have escaped poverty sustainably.

When coming to Thuong Long commune, Yen Lap district, asking about households that have become billionaires from cinnamon trees, almost all the people in the commune highly appreciate the family of Ms. Trieu Thi Van. Originally a poor household in the commune, since the late 1990s, when introduced to cinnamon trees, her family boldly borrowed capital to invest in growing cinnamon and learning the profession of growing seedlings, supplying them to households in need in the locality. Thanks to cinnamon trees, Ms. Van's family has an income of over 1.4 billion VND/year, creating stable jobs for 15 local workers with an income of about 7.5 million VND/person/month.

Ms. Van shared: “My family grows 12 hectares of cinnamon, of which 8 hectares have been harvested. In addition, I also grow and sell cinnamon seedlings, selling an average of 800,000 trees a year, purchasing and processing cinnamon products such as branches, bark, and leaves. Cinnamon trees are much more economically efficient than other crops. I and many cinnamon growers in the commune are willing to share our experiences with everyone according to the motto of the first growers supporting seedlings and techniques for the next growers to expand the planting area, helping the disadvantaged households in the commune escape poverty.”

Grapefruit trees have now become one of the main crops in some communes such as Xuan Vien, Xuan Thuy, Phuc Khanh, Dong Thinh, Hung Long... Being one of the first households to bring Dien grapefruit trees to Xuan Thuy fields more than 20 years ago, up to now, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen's grapefruit garden has a revenue of over 500 million VND/year.

In addition to grapefruit trees, his family also built a comprehensive economic model VAC, the family's average total revenue reached over 1.6 billion VND/year. From the grapefruit growing model combined with livestock raising of Mr. Nen's family, many households in and outside Xuan Thuy commune have boldly learned and invested in following, bringing high economic efficiency.

In addition to the above models, Yen Lap district has also successfully built many models of raising commercial chickens, pigs, goats; raising sturgeon, koi fish... which have been widely replicated and applied, helping ethnic minorities in the district to sustainably reduce poverty.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thuy Huong - Deputy Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: The Department actively advises the district to have a policy to encourage the development of effective economic models, suitable for local reality, widely replicated; encourage households producing the same product to establish cooperatives and cooperatives to exchange experiences, techniques, and consume products. In the coming time, Yen Lap district will focus on promoting linkages and cooperation between cooperatives and other economic sectors to apply scientific and technological advances, consume agricultural products, local specialties, and improve the competitiveness of the subjects.
