Scholar and researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau was born in 1923 in Hanoi. He graduated from the University of Technology (Hanoi) in 1941.
After the August Revolution, he was appointed as the economic secretary for Minister Nguyen Manh Ha. In 1951, he went to France to study at the Catholic University of Paris. He graduated in 1953.

In 1954, researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau and intellectuals including Hoang Xuan Han, Nguyen Manh Ha and Nguyen Ngoc Bich went to Switzerland to support the delegation led by Mr. Pham Van Dong to attend the Geneva Agreement. In early 1955, he returned to Vietnam to work as a History - Geography professor at Nguyen Ba Tong High School, Saigon (now Bui Thi Xuan School).
Researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau has published dozens of diverse publications ranging from history, geography to culture and society. Among them, the book series “Vietnamese Land Register under the Nguyen Dynasty” is considered his monumental research work.
In addition, his research works on the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos and issues in the East Sea are also highly appreciated, such as Hoang Sa - Truong Sa, The Vietnamese Ceramic and Silk Road in the East Sea...
Back in the 1960s, scholar Nguyen Dinh Dau had just begun to publish his research works in the Southern press. With diligence and care, despite being new, his research was highly appreciated for its quality. In the following years, his works and research articles were continuously published, becoming a rich source of materials for later generations to study and refer to.
In addition to being recognized as a prestigious scholar and a talented researcher, scholar Nguyen Dinh Dau is also an individual actively fighting for national peace.
