On April 11, the Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam reported to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD) on the progress of the implementation of the Project on comprehensive assessment of mineral potential in the Central Central region to serve socio-economic development (referred to as the Central Central Project).

According to Mr. Tran Binh Trong - Director of the Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam, the Central Central Project was assigned to the Department to implement from 2020 with the goal of assessing the overall mineral potential, delineating areas with potential for mine discovery, evaluating resources, determining the quality of minerals, focusing on metal minerals, energy minerals, industrial minerals, and stone blocks for paving stones as a basis for socio-economic development.
The scope of implementation of the Project is in the provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak and mountainous areas of Da Nang City.
Mr. Duong Ngoc Tinh - Central Central Geological Federation, Project Manager - said that up to now, the Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam has investigated and synthesized the current status of 32 gold ore areas, of which the remaining resources of one mine have been assessed and transferred to the locality for management and planning of exploration and exploitation.
Notably, the units have made preliminary assessments at a scale of 1:25,000 in 12 gold ore areas, with forecasted resources of more than 10 tons of gold and nearly 16.5 tons of silver; identified 11 large-scale prospective areas for further detailed assessments...
Mr. Tran Binh Trong said: "Up to now, the Central Central Project has discovered and assessed resource potential, creating sufficient basis to transfer the auction of mineral exploration and exploitation rights for 26/45 mines, including 3/8-10 metal mineral mines, 6/10-15 industrial mineral mines and 17/20-25 stone cladding mines; discovered and transferred the exploration of 2-3 areas of uranium ore prospect".

In the coming time, the Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam will continue to identify areas with mineral prospects and areas with the potential for hidden, deep mines to continue assessing minerals for the 2025-2030 period and after 2030.
Previously, the Project on comprehensive mineral survey and completion of geological map at scale 1/50,000 of the Northwest region discovered 110 precious and important mineral mines in 12 provinces (Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Hoa Binh, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang) and 21 western districts of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces. Of which, there are about 40 gold mines with a total reserve of more than 29.8 tons of gold. In addition, at a copper mine in Lao Cai province, the research unit also discovered minerals associated with gold, with a reserve of about 420kg of gold.
