According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam thanked New Zealand Prime Minister Luxon for his kind remarks about Vietnam and the relationship between the two countries, and highly appreciated New Zealand's foreign policy of always attaching importance to connecting with the Southeast Asian region.
He highly appreciated the results of the talks between the two Prime Ministers, especially the issuance of the Joint Statement upgrading the Vietnam-New Zealand relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This demonstrated the remarkable development and deep strategic trust between the two countries, creating a solid framework to bring the bilateral relationship into a new stage of development.
Vietnam supports New Zealand in upgrading relations with ASEAN
The Party leader suggested that the two countries continue to promote economic and trade cooperation and develop specific strategies to enhance connectivity between the two economies. The General Secretary also appreciated New Zealand as a country with good administration and governance, an advanced and modern economy, science, technology and education, which are areas that Vietnam is in great need of in its development process.
Thanking the New Zealand Government for supporting scholarships for Vietnamese students, General Secretary To Lam shared that New Zealand is becoming a trusted and favorite destination for Vietnamese students to choose to study and research. He emphasized that educational cooperation has been contributing to strengthening and deepening the friendship between the two peoples.
For his part, New Zealand Prime Minister Luxon sincerely thanked the General Secretary for his affection and attention to New Zealand in particular and the Vietnam - New Zealand relationship in general.
He emphasized that with its strengths, New Zealand wishes to accompany and support Vietnam in achieving its socio-economic development goals in the coming time.
The New Zealand leader expressed his willingness to welcome more Vietnamese students, scientists and researchers to study and conduct research in his country. At the same time, he wished to further promote tourism, trade and investment cooperation and connections between the business community.
The two sides believe that the new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework will bring great common benefits and contribute to peace and development in the region and the world.
Regarding regional and international issues, General Secretary To Lam thanked New Zealand for always supporting Vietnam and ASEAN's stance on the East Sea issue. He affirmed that Vietnam is ready to cooperate and support New Zealand in further strengthening relations with ASEAN and moving towards upgrading the ASEAN-New Zealand dialogue relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Also on the afternoon of February 26, receiving New Zealand Prime Minister Luxon, President Luong Cuong highly appreciated the fact that New Zealand has always been a reliable partner, actively cooperated with and supported Vietnam over the past half century.
The Head of State said that upgrading the relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership opens a new phase of cooperation, bringing the relationship between the two countries to develop more comprehensively and deeply, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
For his part, the New Zealand Prime Minister expressed his impression of Vietnam's strong development in recent years, affirming his desire to continuously strengthen cooperative relations with Vietnam.
The two sides agreed that in the coming time, the two countries need to continue to concretize the contents of the new relationship framework, through building an action program with specific cooperation programs and measures in various fields.
The two leaders agreed to continue to strengthen political trust, deepen cooperation in defense and security; increase information exchange, assess regional and world situations as well as cooperate in responding to traditional and non-traditional security challenges.
President Luong Cuong thanked the New Zealand Government for increasing the number of scholarships for Vietnamese students by 56% and asked New Zealand to continue supporting Vietnam in technology transfer and training experts and high-quality human resources.
At the meeting, the two sides affirmed that Vietnam and New Zealand share common views and visions on regional and world issues. In the context of complicated developments in the world and the region, the two countries need to continue to closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, especially the United Nations, APEC, ASEAN and ASEAN-led mechanisms.
New Zealand Prime Minister Luxon reaffirmed New Zealand's support and assistance to Vietnam in its role as host of APEC in 2027.
