In Xuan Lam commune now, all roads have been expanded, concreted, paved, spacious and clean. This is the result of the joint efforts and consensus of the people who donated land and property to expand and upgrade rural roads. Among them, the typical ones are the family of Mr. Tran Trung Bo and Mrs. Tran Thi Van (born in 1945) in village 3-4 (formerly village 4) with a total donated area of 70 m2 .
Mr. Tran Trung Bo is a veteran, a 3/4-class disabled veteran, who participated in Group 559 - opening the Truong Son road to fight against the US to save the country. In 1989, he returned to his hometown to live. In 2024, Xuan Lam commune plans to expand and upgrade rural roads in the area - one of the "hard" criteria to build a commune that meets advanced NTM standards.
Responding to the movement, in January 2024, Village 4 (old) implemented the expansion to upgrade the alley road (length of nearly 150 m) from 3 m to 5 m. To achieve the goal, mass organizations and village officials actively promoted and mobilized people to donate land and assets on the land to expand the road for the common good.
The clearance was difficult because the house of a household on the left side of the road was solidly built and could not be moved back, forcing the clearance of the side with the land of Mr. Tran Trung Bo's family. Although not included in the plan, after being mobilized, Mr. Bo's family voluntarily demolished the solid fence of nearly 25 m to move back more than 1.2 m into the family's garden land. Thereby, the road was not only expanded and upgraded to meet the criteria but also straight and beautiful.

By April 2024, the alley road (from Mr. Vung's house (Mr. Bo's neighbor) to Mr. Bo's house, 70 m long) in village 4 (old) also needs to be expanded and upgraded. At that time, the road in front of his house was only 3 m wide, narrow and difficult to travel.
Seeing that the work was completely reasonable and meaningful, his family decided to once again take the lead in donating land to open the road. To motivate the movement of the whole village, Mr. Bo's family voluntarily demolished 30m of solid fence, moved the gate and part of the auxiliary works. The total land area donated for both traffic routes of his family was more than 70m², and at the same time contributed 20 million VND to upgrade the road. Up to now, the roads have been widened to more than 5m, poured with flat concrete, ensuring everyone can travel conveniently.
Mr. Tran Trung Bo shared: "The war wound made my left ear deaf and my right eye blurred, but I feel luckier than many other comrades who had to stay on the battlefield. Now living in peacetime, my family feels happy to contribute a small part to building our homeland. When the local government and the village promoted land donation to open roads, I discussed it with my wife and received great support. Donating a little of our assets and efforts to make the residential area more beautiful is what my wife and I should do" - Mr. Bo shared.

According to Mr. Tran Duc Long - Head of Village 3, 4 (Xuan Lam Commune) in the movement of donating land to open roads, Mr. Bo and his wife, although old, weak, and facing many difficulties in life, still uphold the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers. They have actively participated in contributing to the overall development of the village, truly a typical example. Thereby, creating a positive effect to help the whole village expand and upgrade 12 alley roads with a length of nearly 1.8 km in 2024.
Mr. Dang Van Hoai - Chairman of Xuan Lam Commune People's Committee said: In addition to donating land and opening roads, Mr. Tran Trung Bo's family has always been exemplary in local movement activities. The above meaningful and admirable deeds demonstrate the pioneering spirit of soldiers in the cause of building new rural areas to develop their homeland. In recognition of the above contributions, on January 22, 2025, the Chairman of Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee awarded a certificate of merit to his family for their outstanding achievements in the emulation movement to build roads and drainage ditches in 2024.
