Raw coffee prices have more than tripled in the past two years, putting enormous pressure on coffee shops. Shop owners are forced to adjust their prices to maintain profits while still retaining customers. In Ho Chi Minh City, many coffee shops have begun to raise prices to adapt to market developments.
A cup of iced black coffee now costs VND22,000, up 10% from a month ago. Other coffee-based drinks have also seen increases of 10-20% at many locations. Price adjustments are inevitable, as raw material costs account for 20-35% of the cost of a cup of coffee.
However, according to statistics, about 60% of customers react sensitively to this price increase. Therefore, many coffee shops are considering different solutions, such as optimizing operating costs or accepting a decrease in profit margins to maintain a stable number of customers.

Vietnam pepper industry promotes green production
Recognizing the opportunities and challenges ahead, the Vietnamese pepper industry is focusing on developing a green production model. According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, the industry is promoting the construction of raw material areas that meet important certifications according to EU, US and Japanese standards. At the same time, farmer training programs and policies to support the conversion of production models are also being vigorously implemented.
Cooperation between public and private organizations in researching new crop varieties and applying post-harvest processing and preservation technologies is helping to improve product quality, reduce losses and protect the environment.
Although the pepper growing area accounts for only 15% of coffee and 12% of rubber, the export value reaches 23% of coffee and 38% of rubber. Experts recommend not to expand the growing area massively, but to focus on improving quality and promoting organic farming.
