People want to keep the name Tien Son

According to the draft Project on rearranging commune-level administrative units in Tien Phuoc district in the period of 2023 - 2025, the locality will merge the entire natural area and population size of Tien Cam commune and Tien Son commune to establish Tien Son Cam commune.

Explaining the name Tien Son Cam, according to the People's Committee of Tien Phuoc district, the two communes of Tien Son and Tien Cam have similar historical, traditional and cultural factors.

The name Tien Son Cam is consistent with the names of the communes in Tien Phuoc district, using the word Tien at the beginning of the name; not overlapping with the names of the remaining communes and towns. At the same time, it ensures the retention of part of the names of the two communes after the merger; harmonizing the thoughts and feelings of the people of the two localities.

The merger of the two communes above solves the problem of arranging the period 2026 - 2030 for Tien Son commune. The natural area of the new commune administrative unit is 40.11 km2 (reaching 80.22% of the standard) and the population size is 7,383 people (reaching 147.66% of the standard). The current headquarters of Tien Cam commune is chosen as the headquarters of the new commune administrative unit.

Agreeing with the policy of merging Tien Cam and Tien Son communes, however, Tien Son commune residents are still concerned about choosing the name and location of the new commune administrative unit's headquarters according to the project developed by the District People's Committee.

According to the results of information collection in Tien Son commune sent to the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee and the Steering Committee for the arrangement of administrative units of Tien Phuoc district, there are opinions of cadres, party members and people who do not agree with the location chosen for the new commune administrative unit headquarters.

If Tien Cam is chosen as the administrative unit headquarters, the end point of Tien Son is village 4 and village 6, 13km from the commune center; the end point of Tien Cam is village Cam Pho and Cam Dong, 4km away.

If Tien Son is chosen as an administrative unit, the end point of Tien Son commune is village 4 and village 6, 7 km from the commune center; the end point of Tien Cam commune is village Cam Pho and Cam Lanh, 7 km from the commune center. Therefore, choosing the administrative center in Tien Son commune will be more scientific, ensuring greater mobility in management and work resolution.

Mr. Dang Tan Minh - former Secretary of the Tien Son Commune Party Committee said that merging communes is very reasonable, aiming to streamline the apparatus, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations. However, the choice of the location of the administrative center and the name of the commune after the merger needs to be widely consulted to make appropriate decisions.

“The proposed name of the new commune is also very strange, just to avoid offending each other. In my opinion, we should keep the name of the new commune as Tien Son because it is associated with many events, the depth of historical traditions, geography, and spiritual culture of the revolutionary land of Son - Cam - Ha. Since the resistance war until now, Tien Son has always been the leading commune in all revolutionary movements,” said Mr. Minh.

Proposal to keep the name of Tien Son commune

On April 19, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tien Phuoc district held a conference to review the draft Project on rearranging commune-level administrative units in the district for the period 2023 - 2025.

Sharing the results of the conference, Mr. Nguyen Chinh - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tien Phuoc district said that due to not meeting the standards on natural area and population size, Tien Cam commune is subject to rearrangement in the period 2023 - 2025.

Meanwhile, Tien Son commune is an adjacent commune that has been arranged. The location of the new commune administrative headquarters was discussed and agreed upon by the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee to choose the current Tien Cam commune headquarters, because it is in a favorable position for development, and at the same time, the commune's infrastructure was only invested in and built 2 years ago. Meanwhile, the Tien Son commune headquarters was built about 20 years ago.

In the short term, the project will select the headquarters of Tien Cam commune as the working place of the new commune. In the long term, the district will plan to build the headquarters of the new commune administrative unit to ensure it is located in the center, convenient for people in the villages to go to and resolve administrative procedures.

At the conference to discuss the draft project, the opinions of delegates, including officials of the two communes, all said that naming the new commune according to the project was not appropriate. Based on the discussion, the conference unanimously proposed to name the new commune Tien Son.

Opinions say that the name Tien Son commune appeared 76 years ago, while the name Tien Cam commune appeared later, 43 years ago. Tien Son commune left a deep historical mark on the patriotic and revolutionary movement of Quang Nam, and the patriotic movement of the whole country also originated from here.

Using the name Tien Son commune to name the new administrative unit is consistent with the regulation "encouraging the use of one of the existing names of administrative units before the merger to name the administrative unit formed after the arrangement" in Resolution No. 35 of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

In addition, after the merger, the number of people who have to change their identity papers will also be less (because the population of Tien Cam commune is smaller). "After discussion, opinions unanimously proposed to name the new commune Tien Son and set up headquarters in Tien Cam commune" - Mr. Nguyen Chinh said.

According to Mr. Phan Van Duong - Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for the arrangement of administrative units of Tien Phuoc district, with the view of merging for development, placing the administrative headquarters in Tien Cam is more convenient for transportation, economic and cultural exchange between regions.

As for the historical traditions of the two communes, they are similar… All the work up to now is a preparatory step in the process of building the project, we have to wait for voters' opinions to make the final decision.
