Along with fishermen from other localities in the province, these days, fishermen from Ninh Hai district are going out to sea to catch seafood in the Southern fishing season with the expectation of a full catch of shrimp and fish.

Arriving at Ninh Chu fishing ports, Khanh Hai town; My Tan, Thanh Hai commune; the boat anchorage area in Vinh Hy bay, Vinh Hai commune... we recorded the bustling atmosphere of boats transporting all kinds of scad, mackerel, tuna, anchovies, squid... from the boat's hold to the shore to be weighed and sold to traders; at the same time, taking advantage of transporting food, fuel, and ice to continue going to sea. Fisherman Tran Dinh in My Tan 1 village, Thanh Hai commune happily said: This year's Southern fishing season has been quite favorable for seafood exploitation activities. Last month, my family's fishing boat went to sea 3 times to exploit in the sea area of Ninh Thuan to Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) and around Phu Quy island (Binh Thuan). Thanks to the application of technology in exploitation, each fishing trip the boat caught over 3 tons of mackerel, tuna of all kinds. After deducting fuel costs and wages for crew members, the family still has an income of over 100 million VND, so the family is very excited. Currently, the family is preparing fuel for the 4th fishing trip in this Southern fishing season with the expectation of achieving a good seafood yield. The weather is favorable, so small-capacity boats fishing near the shore are also bustling. Fisherman Nguyen Van Sanh in My Tan 2 village said: At this time, in the areas near the shore, frog fish, cobia, barracuda... appear quite densely, so fishermen's jobs such as floating nets to catch frog fish, sinker nets to catch cobia, barracuda... are also busy at sea. My family's boat fishes from the afternoon of the previous day until the next morning, docking at the port, catching an average of nearly 100 kg of frog fish each day, with an average price of 25,000-30,000 VND/kg. After deducting costs, the profit is more than 1.5 million VND/day, so the fishermen are very excited.

Having a source of raw materials helps local fish steamers start the fish steaming season. Ms. Tran Thi Hoa, owner of Loc Hoa fish steamer in My Tan 1 village, shared: Currently, it is the beginning of the Southern fish season, with a source of raw materials, fish steamers have been operating again for more than a week now, on average, my facility steams 2-3 tons of anchovies and mackerel per day. Thereby, it helps solve the problem of 4-5 local workers with an income of 250,000-300,000 VND/day. Hopefully, in the coming time, the weather will be favorable for fishing boats to reach their output so that there will be an abundant source of raw materials for fish steamers to operate stably to develop the economy.

Ninh Hai district has nearly 1,000 operating vessels with a total capacity of over 145,000 CV. To help fishermen effectively exploit the Southern fishing season, the locality encourages fishermen to repair and maintain their vessels, supplement fishing gear, invest in technology and modern equipment to go offshore to catch seafood; direct Thanh Hai, Tri Hai, Khanh Hai and Vinh Hai communes to consolidate their united fishing teams and groups at sea to support each other during the fishing process; organize fishing in fishing grounds inside and outside the province suitable for each type of industry. Coordinate with the Department of Fisheries to organize training courses on offshore fishing techniques; strengthen the updating and provision of fishing ground information to help fishermen have effective fishing plans; Focus on raising awareness among fishermen in complying with legal regulations on exploitation and protection of aquatic resources, especially regulations against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU)...

The Southern fishing season starts from April to September of the lunar calendar. For fishermen in coastal areas in Ninh Hai district in particular and the whole province in general, this is the main seafood exploitation season of the year. Therefore, every fisherman prays for favorable weather and wind so that seafood exploitation will be favorable and achieve high yields, helping fishermen increase their income and develop the economy.
