The Southern region continues to affirm its position as the region with the highest live hog prices in the country, with prices ranging from 71,000 to 75,000 VND/kg. However, the market recorded a slight decrease of 1,000 VND/kg in some localities compared to yesterday, reflecting fluctuations in supply and demand.
Specifically, provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Long An, Dong Thap and Ben Tre all recorded a price drop to 71,000 VND/kg. This is the second decrease in 3 days, showing that the number of pigs sold is increasing, creating pressure on prices. This also reflects the situation of supply exceeding demand at pig farms in the region.
In contrast, some other localities such as Ca Mau, Hau Giang, Can Tho and Vinh Long still maintain high prices, at 75,000 VND/kg, 73,000 VND/kg, 73,000 VND/kg and 72,000 VND/kg respectively, with no recorded fluctuations. This stability shows that the market in these areas is still well balanced, not under much pressure from sudden supply increases.

Pig price news on April 4, 2025
According to information shared at the Conference on Disease Prevention and Development of Pig Farming in the New Situation organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on April 3, Vietnam currently ranks 4th in the world in terms of pork consumption demand. Mr. Le Thanh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development, emphasized this in his speech.
By 2024, the estimated per capita pork consumption in Vietnam will reach about 37 kg/person, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 3.8%. Total domestic consumption is estimated to reach nearly 4 million tons/year, reflecting the large demand of the domestic market.
Although the peak consumption period for the Lunar New Year has passed, pork prices have not only not decreased but also increased sharply. By early March, the price of live pigs had increased to 75,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, an increase of 15 - 18% compared to early January. Notably, in Dong Nai province, the peak price reached 83,000 VND/kg on March 6, which is also the highest price in the past three years.
However, since mid-March, pork prices have begun to show signs of slowing down and decreasing slightly. As of March 28, the average price of live pigs in all three regions fluctuated between 66,000 - 76,000 VND/kg.
