Artist Le Tham

Playwright Duc Hien shared that artist Le Tham had many underlying diseases. On January 15, while walking in the grounds of the Ho Chi Minh City Artists Nursing Home (District 8), she fainted.

"We took her to People's Hospital 115 for treatment, then she regained consciousness. At this time, she asked to go to her nephew's house in Can Duoc - Long An, because if she stayed at the artist nursing home, there would be no one to take care of her when she was in serious condition. On January 17, her nephew informed her that she had breathed her last at 9:15. She was 87 years old.

"On January 19, her cremation was held at Da Phuoc Cemetery, Binh Chanh, Ho Chi Minh City" - composer Duc Hien emotionally said.

Artist Nguyen Thi Tham, stage name Le Tham, was born in 1937 in Bac Lieu. From the age of 4-5, she started singing and at the age of 17 she was the leading actress in major troupes, and the manager of the Nhi Huong - Tuan Si Cai Luong Troupe.

With a beautiful figure and strong voice, she is loved by the audience and considered an idol by many people. She is one of the first artists that People's Artist Phung Ha brought to live at the Ho Chi Minh City Artists' Retirement Home.

During her lifetime, she often confided that she and her husband had been working with various troupes for nearly 15 years, after which the troupes disbanded and she moved to sing for artist Nam Hung's Saigon 3 troupe. That was the last troupe she sang with before she was allowed to stay at an artists' retirement home in 1996.

The senior artists at the Artists' Nursing Home were moved to talk about artist Le Tham. On her last day, they were not able to be by her coffin to burn incense. The Artists' Nursing Home, on the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, lost a colleague who always cared for and looked after her colleagues.

"I respected artist Le Tham when I was still a member of the management board of the Artists' Nursing Home, so she knew, encouraged, and shared the personalities, interests, and life stories of each artist. It's like the house cleaning trip after Tet didn't include artist Le Tham" - playwright Duc Hien said.

For Meritorious Artist Dieu Hien, artist Le Tham was a friend who shared many joys and sorrows during the months they lived together in the house called Artists' Nursing Home. "I considered her a close friend. Now she has left forever. I can only light a stick of incense to say goodbye in sorrow" - Meritorious Artist Dieu Hien said in tears.
