Teacher tells parents not to let students buy flowers on October 20th
Last week, social media widely circulated a text message believed to be from a teacher in Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh), on October 20, highlighting the following message: "The teacher sincerely hopes that parents do not worry about this day. The weather is windy, the sea is rough. This year the economy is difficult. The teacher feels very guilty when receiving gifts from parents." In the message, she also told parents not to let students buy flowers to avoid waste.
A text message from a teacher to a parent caused a social media storm last week.
Sharing the same view with the female teacher, a vice principal of a high school in Kien Giang said that she understands the situation of parents in the post-pandemic and natural disaster context. "Parents have already taken care of many things for students at the beginning of the year, preparing gifts for teachers puts even more pressure. I hope these problems will soon end in education," said the vice principal.
Warm your heart with simple gifts
Sharing about the gifts for October 20 - Vietnamese Women's Day this year, Ms. TNM, a literature teacher at a secondary school in District 4 (HCMC), said that her students performed a group singing performance that was innocent and lovely. "I always cherish the gifts that the children prepare themselves, such as flowers, cards or performances. These are things that the children remember and want to give to me," the female teacher shared.
Ms. M. also frankly stated her opinion of not accepting "envelopes" from parents on holidays and Tet. "I know many parents are pressured to think of gifts for teachers, this is unnecessary. We need to educate our children about gratitude and let them express it to teachers themselves, not because their parents instruct them," the female teacher confided.

As an online math teacher at Everest Education Center (District 7, Ho Chi Minh City), Ms. Lai Thuy Ky Phuong expressed surprise and emotion when her students congratulated her on October 20 with a portrait of her.
"Even though we only met through the screen, the students still thought of me and prepared this gift. They often complained about having too much homework, but they still took the time to draw pictures and show them to me when the class was almost over. To me, this is the most meaningful gift this year," the teacher recalled emotionally.
As a nanny who takes care of students' meals and naps, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, currently working at Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), said that although she is not a teacher, she is not "forgotten" as students always congratulate her and give her small gifts on October 20 and other holidays of the year.
"I am happy and appreciate the feelings the children have for me. Every flower and gift, every year, I keep and note the date and story to preserve memories. These are meaningful gifts in my professional life," the nanny confided.
The flowers students give each year are carefully preserved by the nanny.

Similarly, on the morning of October 18, Dang Gia Huy, a 10th grade student at Trung Vuong High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) gathered his male classmates at school at 5am to carry out the plan. "While no one was in class yet, we placed the gifts on the girls' desks. In addition, we also prepared flowers and wrote cards for the teachers. One teacher cried when receiving the class's gifts," the male student proudly shared.
Nguyen Thi Bach Kim, a student of class 11B12, Vinh Loc B High School (Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City), was surprised to receive gifts from her male classmates. "Although the whole class prepared a surprise for the homeroom teacher, I didn't think I would receive a gift on October 20. The male classmates thoughtfully prepared blind bags of charm beads (beads to decorate bracelets) and let the female classmates draw lots," the female student said.
