According to information from the family, late that same day, Mr. NVS (51 years old) and his son NVS (31 years old, both living in O Mon district, Can Tho city) were stabbed with a knife by a young man. This young man is the lover of Mr. S.'s daughter.
Regarding the reason why the two people were stabbed, according to initial information, the young man came to take Mr. S.'s daughter out but his brother did not allow it so he stopped him, then the two sides had an argument. After that, the young man ran home to get a knife, turned around and stabbed Mr. NVS in the left chest.
At this time, Mr. S. (the girl's father) saw this and intervened, but was also stabbed twice in the right lower rib by this young man. Immediately afterwards, both were taken to the emergency room at Can Tho General Hospital.
Upon admission to the hospital, Mr. NVS had an unmeasurable pulse and blood pressure, was lethargic, agitated, and had difficulty breathing. Doctors examined him and found a wound in his left chest at the 6th intercostal space. Ultrasound and X-ray results at the bedside showed that he had a large hemothorax, suspected of causing damage to a large blood vessel and hemorrhagic shock.
The doctor performed intensive resuscitation, administered oxygen, intravenous fluids, and blood transfusion, and consulted on emergency surgery. The team of anesthesiologists, resuscitators, and thoracic surgeons performed open surgery on the left chest, and there was a lot of blood (about 3,000ml) in the pleural cavity.
The wound severed the left 6th rib in half, penetrated the lower lobe of the left lung, and caused blood to flow in a jet due to severed arteries and veins in the lower lobe of the left lung. Surgeons performed hemostasis and sutured the lung parenchyma, cleaned the pleural cavity, and placed a drainage tube.
During the surgery, due to severe blood loss shock, Mr. NVS was transfused with 6 units of blood and 4 units of plasma. After the surgery, the patient regained consciousness, his vital signs were stable, and he is being monitored further.
According to doctors, this is an emergency case. If delayed, the patient will go into shock from blood loss, stop breathing, and stop heart.
The father received emergency treatment for two wounds on his right hip. The CT scan of his chest and abdomen showed that the patient had a moderate amount of right pleural effusion, little intra-abdominal blood, and liver damage.
The surgeons proceeded to suture the liver and diaphragm wounds and clean up the abdominal blood. After surgery, the patient is now conscious and is being monitored in the post-operative recovery department.
