After the incident of a tourist falling into the river at the Khoi My stopover at Cai Rang floating market, Can Tho City authorities will inspect all stops and tourist boats.
On the morning of February 18, Mr. Nguyen Hoang On, Chief Inspector of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, said that the department's leaders had submitted a document to the People's Committee of Cai Rang District requesting to strengthen inspection and rectify tourism service business activities at Cai Rang floating market.

The reason the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism made this request stems from the incident of a tourist falling into the river while visiting the Khoi My stop at Cai Rang floating market on the morning of February 16.

Inspection contents include: boats, ships, and rafts must comply with inspection regulations, properly and fully comply with conditions for serving tourists according to legal regulations;
Boats and ships participating in traffic must ensure safety and are not allowed to pick up passengers in places that are not in accordance with regulations, which pose a risk of accidents and disrupt the order and safety of waterway traffic;
Inspect, remind and handle organizations and individuals operating floating rafts on the river to comply with legal regulations on tourism business activities...
In addition to floating raft stops, authorities also inspect compliance with legal regulations for tourist boats operating on the river to visit Cai Rang floating market.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang On, at Cai Rang floating market there are about 10 stops which are floating rafts selling local specialties.
"After the incident of a tourist falling into the river, there are many potential safety risks at the stops and floating rafts on the river. We will simultaneously inspect all stops and tourism service businesses at this floating market," the Department's Chief Inspector affirmed.
In particular, the authorities require that tourist boats not pick up passengers in places that are not in accordance with regulations, potentially posing a risk to waterway traffic safety.
Also according to Mr. On, regarding the above incident and based on the administrative violation record of the Khoi My stopover, in addition to suspending the operation of this facility, the Inspector of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City also imposed an administrative penalty on the owner of the facility in the tourism sector with a fine of 5-10 million VND for the violation of "Not warning of the risk of danger to tourists".
"We request that the owner of the Khoi My rest stop business comply with the suspension of operations as requested by the authorities," said Mr. On.
In addition to the suspension of operations, the Khoi My stop - where the tourist fell into the river - was also administratively fined for "failing to warn of danger to tourists", with a fine of 5-10 million VND.
As reported by Giao Thong Newspaper, on the morning of February 16, a short video clip appeared on social media recording the scene of many tourists falling into the river while visiting Cai Rang floating market.
According to the clip, at that time, many people were gathered in the corridor of a floating raft when it suddenly collapsed, causing nearly 10 people to fall into the river.
Fortunately, people standing nearby and the cruise ship captains joined in the rescue, bringing the passengers onto the raft and ship safely, without anyone being injured.
After the incident, the Waterway Traffic Police Department of Can Tho City Police was present to make a record of the violation and suspend the operation on the river at the Khoi My stop.
