The ancient village of Hallstatt is known as a fairyland, one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Europe, as well as in the world. Many people dream of coming here. Surrounded by the majestic Alps, Hallstatt has a stunning location with its back to the mountains and its front facing Lake Hallstattersee.
According to local people, this place is beautiful in every season, especially on cold winter days, when the snow covers the Alps, creating a charming, magical scene. Sitting on a cruise around the lake or climbing up to look down, visitors will be attracted by Hallstatt by the green of the trees, the lake blending with the special golden sunlight in the late afternoon. Coming here, many people find the best angle to take photos and check-in with the church bell tower, a prominent building and highlight of the village. The town of Hallstatt covers an area of nearly 60 km2, in the district of Gmunden, southwest of the Hallstattersee lake and the slopes of the Hoher Dachstein mountain in the Salzkammergut region. In 1997, this place was recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Hallstatt is also the origin of the largest salt mine in Europe. Walking on the lakeside trails and admiring the wooden houses, ancient markets, squares… visitors will feel like they are going back in time to 16th century Europe. Hallstattersee Lake is an indispensable part of Hallstatt with clear blue water, reflecting the ancient village and majestic mountain peaks. If you do not take a large boat, visitors can rent a swan boat to take a ride around and enjoy the natural scenery. Visitors can participate in activities such as swimming, boating besides mountain climbing, hiking in the summer. On both sides of the path in the village, there are many souvenir shops with beautiful and attractive items that make visitors unable to resist "spending money" to buy a few items as souvenirs. Their prices range from 1 Euro (more than 27 thousand VND) and up.
To travel to Hallstatt village, Vietnamese tourists can currently choose Vietnam Airlines' direct flight from Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City to Munich or Frankfurt (Germany) as the closest, then travel by road to Salzburg (Austria) with only 1.5 hours by car.
If you are on a tour, the bus will stop right at the entrance of the village. From there, everyone walks to the town center according to regulations. The tour usually lasts 1.5 hours if you do not take a cruise on Lake Hallstattersee.
