On the afternoon of April 12, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Tourism Training Association in collaboration with Hanoi College of Tourism organized the Conference "Practical training to meet the requirements of tourism development in the current context", attracting the participation of many experts, researchers, tourism businesses, and representatives of tourism training institutions.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Professor, Dr. Dao Manh Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Training Association, said: Vietnam is witnessing great changes in the tourism industry, with growth in the number of visitors and revenue in both international and domestic markets. However, Vietnam's tourism human resources are not only lacking in quantity but also weak in quality.
To date, our country has about 195 tourism training establishments, including: 65 universities with tourism faculties; 55 colleges; 71 secondary schools; 4 vocational training centers. In addition, there are 2 training establishments affiliated with enterprises. However, these training establishments still do not provide enough labor to meet the needs of the tourism market.
Each year, the tourism industry needs 40,000 workers, but in reality, the supply only ensures about 20,000 workers. Of these, workers with university and postgraduate degrees account for only 9.7%; primary, secondary, and college degrees account for more than 50%; below primary degrees account for 39.3%, and only 43% of the total number of workers are trained in tourism expertise. This leads to the fact that many tourism businesses have to "retrain" when recruiting personnel so that workers can adapt to professional requirements.

Professor, Dr. Dao Manh Hung, Chairman of Vietnam Tourism Training Association, spoke. |
According to Professor, Dr. Dao Manh Hung, to fill the gap in quality human resources, it is necessary to pay attention to practical training solutions in tourism to meet the development requirements of the industry in the new period. Because in tourism vocational training, professional quality can only be achieved when workers have high vocational skills, and to have high labor skills, practice in training is an important and decisive factor. That is also the purpose of organizing the Conference "Practical training to meet the requirements of tourism development in the current context".
At the Conference, based on the recognition of the current status of Vietnam's tourism human resources, delegates representing tourism training institutions discussed the difficulties and challenges in current tourism practice training, and shared innovative experiences in training methods and approaches to improve the practical work efficiency of students.
In particular, the Conference introduced a number of specific models and projects in tourism practical training such as: the "Hotel School" model - a school in a hotel, helping students have the opportunity to access a real working environment and work right during their studies; the Tourism Cultural Talent Incubator project; a competency-based practical training model, emphasizing the ability to apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes to practical work, helping students to be trained and evaluated through real-life situations, real-life projects, and internships at businesses...
Many practical solutions to enhance the practical element in tourism training were proposed by delegates, such as: promoting the connection between schools and schools, between training facilities and businesses, having a mechanism to invite talented personnel from businesses to participate in teaching; applying AI in tourism practical training; increasing the rate of foreign language and information technology practice; training according to international output standards; having a joint program so that students can study and intern abroad...
