Video on social media shows a Ukrainian armored unit, including the country's most modern Leopard 2A6 tanks, being destroyed by Russian forces.

The Telegram account Voin_Dv, which specializes in posting documents about Russian forces fighting in Ukraine, today shared a video from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), showing a Ukrainian armored unit being heavily attacked while fighting at the Orekhov front in Zaporizhzhia province.

In the video, a convoy of Ukrainian armored vehicles is seen under heavy fire from Russian artillery and helicopter gunships in an open area with little cover. A large explosion occurs nearby, but it is unclear whether the tank was hit by artillery fire or hit a mine.

The Russian UAV then approached and discovered an abandoned Leopard 2A6 main battle tank, four M2A2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and a BMR-2 armored minesweeper. The vehicles all showed signs of damage, but the fate of the crew was unknown.

Several armored vehicles and mechanized vehicles were also destroyed in the nearby area, including a tank believed to be a Leopard 2A6 that was also set ablaze.

The Russian Defense Ministry and the Ukrainian military have not commented on the information.

Leopard 2A6 is the main tank of the German army, and is also one of the most modern tanks that the West has provided to Ukraine, with a total of about 21 tanks.

This version has significantly enhanced defense capabilities, using new generation composite armor and adding explosive reactive armor modules to help the tank better withstand anti-tank weapons. The front of the turret is also equipped with wedge-shaped box armor to deal with enemy kinetic energy penetrator bullets.

Russia has been on the defensive for months, strengthening its defenses and preparing to respond to a large-scale counterattack by Ukraine. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Russian forces have repelled several attacks by the Ukrainian army on the front line in Zaporizhzhia province over the past few days.

Two anonymous senior US officials Ukrainian forces have suffered casualties and lost heavy equipment in their efforts to break through Russian defense lines in the east in recent days, an official said on June 8. "The damage is quite significant," an official described the situation, saying that among the destroyed Ukrainian equipment were mine-resistant armored vehicles (MRAPs) donated by the United States.

"Russian forces put up a strong resistance. They were equipped with many types of firepower, deployed in a multi-layered defense system and protected by dense minefields, causing heavy losses to Ukrainian armored units," the other person commented.
