(Dan Tri) - The Kremlin announced that Russia's stance on resolving the Ukraine conflict was made clear by Russian President Vladimir Putin last year.

"Our position on resolving the conflict was clearly stated by the president and we remain committed to this position," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a press briefing on January 16, referring to recent comments by US Secretary of State nominee Marco Rubio that resolving the conflict would require concessions from all parties involved.
"This position was clearly stated in June last year, when the President gave instructions to the Foreign Ministry. Our position is consistent, transparent and widely known," Mr. Peskov stressed.
During the hearing on January 15, Mr. Rubio said that both Ukraine and Russia will have to make concessions to end the war.
Mr Rubio suggested that Russia's concession would be not to advance further in the war, while Ukraine's concession would be to give up territories that Russia controls.
“It’s important for people to be realistic: There will need to be concessions from Russia, but also from Ukraine… It’s important to have a balance on both sides,” Rubio said.
Russia now controls about 20% of Ukraine after three years of conflict. Talks between the two sides have stalled since the collapse of peace talks in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Last June, President Putin outlined more specific terms for ending the conflict, including: Ukraine would have to abandon its ambitions to join NATO and withdraw all troops from all territories claimed by Russia.
The Russian leader also said it was necessary to lift all Western sanctions imposed on Moscow and ensure Ukraine's neutral and nuclear-free status.
President Putin has stated that Moscow is still ready to negotiate with Kiev without any preconditions, except for those outlined in the Istanbul agreement in 2022, including neutral status for Ukraine, as well as certain restrictions on the deployment of foreign weapons.
Ukraine has rejected Russia's terms, arguing they amount to surrender. Instead, it has presented a "victory plan" and called for more Western support. Kiev has said it will not stop until the last Russian soldier is driven from its territory.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has insisted that Ukraine will continue to fight until it restores its 1991 borders, a task that would involve retaking all of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, Zaporizhia, and Crimea from Russia. But even US generals have warned that such a goal would require enormous resources that Ukraine does not currently have.
The goal of restoring Ukraine’s territory is becoming increasingly difficult as Russia gains ground on the battlefield. Meanwhile, Western aid policy, especially that of the United States, may reverse after Donald Trump is elected US president.
Mr. Trump has repeatedly stated that he could end the conflict within 24 hours of his re-election. His solution is not yet clear, but some opinions say that the possibility that the future US administration will force Ukraine to make territorial concessions to Russia in exchange for peace cannot be ruled out.
