Proposal for nearly 1,200 billion VND to invest in completing the mountain tunnel on Cam Lam highway

According to the proposed plan, the investment project to complete the Nui Vung tunnel on the North-South expressway, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao section, needs about 1,200 billion VND.

Project Management Board 85 has just submitted to the Ministry of Transport for review and appraisal the investment proposal report for the project to complete the Nui Vung tunnel, part of the North-South expressway project, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao section.

Inside the right branch of Nui Vung tunnel has been put into operation.

According to the proposed plan, the investment project to complete the Nui Vung tunnel goes through Nui Vung in the territory of two provinces Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan. The starting point is at Km 120+700, the ending point is at Km 126+150 (Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway route).

The project investment scope includes completing the left tunnel (including completing the concrete pavement, equipment systems including ventilation, lighting, CCTV, intelligent traffic system, traffic safety), ensuring technical requirements and synchronous exploitation with the right tunnel.

To serve the synchronous exploitation of the project, the reported plan also proposes to build a new bridge unit and approach road. In particular, the section north of Nui Vung tunnel includes the North bridge of tunnel 1, 240m long, the North bridge of tunnel 2, about 500m long and about 521m of approach road.

The southern section includes the 1,000m long South Tunnel 1 Bridge and about 521m of approach road.

Cross-section according to the scale of the complete phase of the project (additional bridge unit with a width of 16.25m), exploiting the tunnel and approach bridges with a scale of 6 lanes.

The total investment of the project is expected to be nearly 1,200 billion VND, using the capital source of increased central budget revenue in 2024. The expected implementation period is from 2025 to 2027.

The North-South Expressway project, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao section, has a total length of 78.5 km. In phase 1, the route is designed with a scale of 4 limited lanes with an operating speed of 90 km/h.

Nui Vung Tunnel is 2.25km long, consisting of two tunnels, each with 3 lanes, and a tunnel width of 14m.

In phase 1, the tunnel project has been completed to exploit a right tunnel with 2 opposite lanes separated by a median, the speed through the tunnel is limited to 60 km/h. The left tunnel has been invested in the tunnel shell and has not invested in the road surface inside the tunnel, the equipment in the tunnel is currently used for escape and rescue purposes in emergency situations.
