Increase the value of agricultural products to reduce poverty sustainably

In recent years, Tuyen Quang has proactively transformed the crop structure, focusing on developing key products and specialties that the province has strengths in. Typically, tea trees, the whole province currently has 8,298 hectares of tea; of which 2,270 hectares are specialty tea, with fresh bud output reaching over 74,000 tons/year.

Meanwhile, the province's orange growing area is estimated at 7,412 hectares, with an output of over 95,000 tons of fruit. There are 1,423.6 hectares of orange trees produced according to VietGAP standards; 33.4 hectares according to organic standards. And the grapefruit growing area is over 5,358 hectares, of which 4,626 hectares produce fruit. Currently, Xuan Van grapefruit and Ham Yen oranges are granted a Certificate of Geographical Indication by the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office.

Up to now, Tuyen Quang has had over 3,200 hectares of crops produced according to VietGAP and organic standards, with 9 growing area codes and 3 packaging facility codes granted; products are standardized to meet market requirements; the brand and competitiveness of agricultural products continue to be enhanced. The average production value per hectare of cultivated land reaches 108.2 million VND/year.

In addition, with 448,239.9 hectares of forestry land, the existing forest area is 426,205 hectares, in recent years, Tuyen Quang's forestry economy has made remarkable progress. A forest plantation area of ​​over 190,000 hectares has been formed, with raw wood reserves of over 2 million m3/year, annual exploitation output of over 900,000 m3/year, ranking first in the country in exploitation output; annually planting over 11,000 hectares; implementing the formula "plant 2, exploit 1", so the forest cover rate is always maintained at over 65%, many localities in the province reach over 70%.

Up to now, Tuyen Quang has 191 OCOP products in 94 communes, wards and towns of 134 entities, of which 149 products have achieved 3-star rating, 42 products have achieved 4-star rating, and 1 product has been submitted to the National OCOP Council for evaluation and classification as 5-star (Hong Thai Shan Tuyet Tea, 1 bud 1 leaf).

Products recognized and ranked as OCOP will be prioritized by the province to be introduced in promotional and trade promotion activities, and supported to be put on e-commerce platforms such as: Sendo, Voso, PostMart, Cuccu, Shopee... The selling price of products after participating in the program increases by 10 - 30%, creating motivation for the subject and associated members to develop products, increase value and income for people.

Tuyen Quang has built 28 safe product chains, with 107 products protected by the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office, over 200 products with traceability stamps and 4 products with geographical indications.

Mr. Nguyen Van Viet, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuyen Quang province, said: Currently, the agricultural sector is greatly affected by natural disasters and climate change. However, the agricultural sector always receives close attention and direction from the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, the supervision of the Provincial People's Council, the close coordination of all levels, sectors and the efforts to overcome difficulties of enterprises, cooperatives and farmers, so the growth targets of the sector have all been achieved and exceeded the set plan.

Specifically, in 2021, the growth rate reached over 5.3%; in 2022 it reached nearly 4.4%, and in the first 9 months of 2023 it reached over 4.3%. Notably, the area of ​​trees grown according to quality standards increased sharply, from 1,600ha to 3,200ha; the area of ​​forest certified by FSC increased to 48,318ha, ranking among the top in the country.

Mr. Viet added: In the coming time, the agricultural sector will focus on implementing a number of key goals: Reorganizing production, especially consolidating and improving the operational efficiency of cooperatives; striving for all key crops and livestock to be produced according to production organization forms such as: Cooperative groups, cooperatives, linking with enterprises, applying technical advances in production, preservation and processing of agricultural products; Well implementing the policies to support agricultural commodity production issued by the Central and the province, especially policies to support agricultural product standards, promote investment, and support high-quality plant varieties.

It is known that Tuyen Quang will soon apply natural disaster monitoring technologies such as: Rain gauge system, forest fire warning system, forest resource management... and all agricultural products will be labeled with traceability stamps, put OCOP products on electronic trading floors, apply technology to serve livestock and crop farming, especially concentrated and specialized agricultural crop areas, from which early detection can be made to prevent and treat pests and diseases for crops, the ultimate goal is to improve the yield and quality of agricultural crops.
