(CLO) Amnesty International accused Israel of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip during its war with Hamas, saying Israel deliberately annihilated Palestinians through deadly attacks, destroyed vital infrastructure and blocked humanitarian aid.
Israel cannot justify its genocide by using the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023, or the presence of militants in residential areas, according to the report, published Thursday. The organization also said the US and Israel’s allies may be complicit in the genocide, and called on them to stop supplying weapons to Israel.
"Our damning findings must be a wake-up call to the international community: this is genocide. It must stop now," said Amnesty International Secretary General Agnès Callamard in the report.

Israel, which was founded after the Holocaust, has consistently denied the genocide allegations, calling them anti-Semitic. It has also contested the charges at the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, and has rejected accusations that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister committed war crimes in Gaza.
Amnesty International said Palestinians were facing a “slow, calculated death” and cited evidence of Israel destroying Gaza’s vital infrastructure such as homes, hospitals, farms and water facilities, while restricting humanitarian aid.
The report also analyzed a series of Israeli airstrikes since the conflict began, showing that at least 334 civilians have been killed, including 141 children, and hundreds more have been injured. Amnesty International said there was no evidence that the airstrikes were exclusively targeting military targets.
The organization has previously accused Israel of racism and denying basic rights to Palestinians in the occupied territories. Israel, however, denies these accusations.
Israel blames Hamas for the civilian deaths, saying Hamas militants fight in densely populated areas and have built military infrastructure near populated areas. It also accuses UN agencies of failing to deliver aid in a timely manner.
Amnesty International called on the US and other countries to put pressure on Israel to end the war, pointing out that the US has supplied weapons to Israel and shielded it from international criticism.
