Le Xuan Manh, Ham Rong High School, Thanh Hoa Province, scored 160 points, winning dramatically in the third quarter match to win a ticket to the Olympia final.

The third quarter competition, the 22nd year of the Road to Olympia program, aired on July 2, featured four contestants: Nguyen Bao Minh Triet, Nguyen Chi Thanh High School for the Gifted (Dak Nong); Do Bao Minh, Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted; Nguyen Trong Tin, Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted (Binh Duong) and Le Xuan Manh, Ham Rong High School (Thanh Hoa).

In the first round of the Warm-up round, Manh did not start the game as expected. He only answered 1/8 questions correctly, earning 10 points. The male student said he knew the answer to a question but did not ring the bell in time.

In the remaining two Warm-up rounds, Manh competed steadily, correctly answering many questions in different fields, including Mathematics, Literature, History, Chemistry and general knowledge.

According to the contest rules, each correct answer will earn the contestant 10 points, but 5 points will be deducted for incorrect answers. After 36 questions, Xuan Manh has 70 points, temporarily leading the race. Trong Tin is second with 35 points, Bao Minh and Minh Triet have no points.

Part two, Overcoming Obstacles , consists of a five-letter keyword. The answers to four hint questions will help the contestant get closer to this keyword. In both the weekly and monthly competitions, Manh passed with only one hint. However, in today's broadcast, the male student was not the first to find the answer.

After finding the suggestions "labor" and "young", Minh Triet pressed the bell to answer the keyword "children", immediately after that Trong Tin also gave the answer "population". As a result, Trong Tin answered correctly, gaining 40 more points and taking the lead with 85 points. Xuan Manh was second, 5 points behind; Bao Minh had 20, Minh Triet had 10 points.

"I think I can change the game," Manh said when this part of the game ended.

Speed is the third part of the test, consisting of four questions. The fastest and most correct answer will earn 40 points. The score will gradually decrease, down to 10 points for the slowest but correct answer.

In the first two questions about spatial visualization and biology, Manh answered incorrectly and did not win any points. Meanwhile, Bao Minh scored 40 points twice. The third question was in the field of Mathematics, related to a system of equations with three unknowns, Manh was the only one to answer correctly and won 40 points.

The last question was about the hero Kim Dong, all four contestants gave their answers early. Bao Minh once again won 40 points, Xuan Manh 30, Trong Tin 20 and Minh Triet 10.

After this round, the leading position belonged to Xuan Manh with 150 points. Bao Minh rose to second place, only 10 points behind Manh. Right behind was Trong Tin with 135 points, Minh Triet with 20 points.

As the first contestant to reach the finish line , Manh chose three questions worth 20 points. The first question was in the Literature category, referring to a familiar folk song of Hue people: "Ngo Mon has 5 doors and 9 floors/Cot co 3 ca, Phu Van Lau has 2 floors". Manh made a mistake in the second part of the folk song, but was lucky that no contestant rang the bell to answer.

Xuan Manh's second question was about the person who discovered the bacteria that causes tuberculosis and the phenomenon of immunity to tuberculosis bacteria. Right after the host finished reading the question, the Thanh student answered "Robert Koch" and won 20 more points.

The third question was in the Physics section, asking about a material that is 5 times harder than steel, 160 times stronger than steel, but 6 times lighter than steel. After a few seconds of hesitation, Manh answered "optical fiber" but the answer was "carbon nanotubes" (also known as nanotubes). However, he did not lose points because no other player took the right to answer.

At the end of his Finishing Pack, Manh had 170 points. The Ham Rong student consolidated his lead by gaining 20 more points from Trong Tin's pack, but lost 15 points when he answered incorrectly from Minh Triet's pack.

At this point, Manh had 175 points, Trong Tin 155 and Bao Minh 145. All three had a chance to advance to the final round if they won the final English question, worth 30 points, from Minh Triet. However, Manh had the biggest advantage. Even if he gave the wrong answer, he would only lose 15 points and still be in first place. Therefore, Manh only needed to not let Tin and Minh ring the bell to win.

The moment Xuan Manh’s bell rang in the decisive question, his fans burst into tears. Manh answered the English question about the amount of plastic waste in Vietnam each year incorrectly, leaving him with 160 points, still enough for him to enter the finals. The student from Thanh Hoa sat down in emotion, unable to hold back his tears.

In the end, Xuan Manh won 160 points, Trong Tin 155, Bao Minh 145 and Minh Triet 20.

The Ham Rong High School student is the third person to participate in the final round of Road to Olympia, which took place in October this year. Before Manh, the two contestants who won tickets to the final round were Nguyen Viet Thanh, Soc Son High School (Hanoi), and Nguyen Minh Triet, Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted (Thua Thien Hue).
