This afternoon, January 12, 2025, the Central Steering Committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide held the second online conference on the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses with localities and units.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh - Head of the Central Steering Committee to implement the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide; President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien; Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung co-chaired the central bridge.

Peak of temporary housing demolition

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is extremely important and humane, demonstrating the responsibility of the Party and State towards the poor and people in difficult circumstances, especially promoting the tradition of "helping each other" of the Vietnamese people.

According to the Prime Minister, since the first meeting, the whole country has completed and handed over more than 44,000 houses and is currently building 34,200 houses. From now until the end of 2025, there are about 240,000 houses to be completed, while the implementation time is very urgent (about 350 days left).

Therefore, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested to focus on implementing the 350-day and night peak period to successfully implement the Program in 2025, ensuring progress and quality. The Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and Vietnam Television to conduct a "weekly countdown" program to announce implementation data so that people can promptly monitor and grasp.

Localities urgently approve specific plans, focus on directing, reviewing, and fully counting poor and near-poor households in need of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses; immediately disburse funds for supported and mobilized resources. In addition, support work must be timely, effective, and targeted to the right target, avoiding loss, waste, and negativity...

At the meeting, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung said that as of January 11, the country had supported the elimination of 88,488 temporary and dilapidated houses (of which, 48,989 houses were inaugurated and 35,899 houses were newly built). This Lunar New Year 2025, it is expected that many households will be able to celebrate Tet in new houses and many families will continue to receive spacious houses.

Quang Nam determined with the whole country

According to the report of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Quang Nam, recently, the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province has received attention and direction, considered an important political task, with the determination of the entire political system.

By December 31, 2024, the province had supported the repair and construction of 6,187/10,945 houses, reaching 56.53% of the plan. Of which, 4,055 houses were newly built and 2,132 houses were repaired with a total cost of nearly 113.5 billion VND. In 2025, Quang Nam still has about 4,758 houses that need to be completed, with a cost of more than 128.7 billion VND...

At the meeting, representatives of localities focused on discussing and proposing solutions to remove existing problems and obstacles in the implementation of the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses. They expressed opinions and proposed guidelines for criteria for temporary and dilapidated houses to determine the subjects. At the same time, they resolved difficulties in land and the ability of poor and near-poor households to respond, ensuring the effective implementation of the program according to plan.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged and commended the units and localities for their good performance in the temporary housing elimination work in the past time. At the same time, he said that thanks to the proactive, positive and flexible implementation of the tasks and solutions, as well as promoting the spirit of great national solidarity, the initial results of the temporary housing elimination program have been very positive.

According to the Prime Minister, there are still about 240,000 temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide. To achieve the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, it is necessary to promote the spirit and responsibility "with all our hearts and minds". In which, ministries, branches and localities must be highly determined, make great efforts, act decisively, finish each task; clearly assign people, tasks, responsibilities, time and results.

Strengthen inspection, supervision, and urging; mobilize "those who have merit to help merit, those who have property to help property, those who have anything to help, those who have a lot to contribute a lot, those who have little to contribute a little" to complete the humanitarian goal, stabilize housing for the needy nationwide...

According to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, currently 58/63 localities have decided to establish and consolidate provincial Steering Committees; 5/63 localities including Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau have not established Steering Committees because these localities no longer have temporary or dilapidated houses. Up to now, 20 provinces and cities have set a target of completing the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses earlier than required, before and during the third quarter of 2025; 13 localities have issued decisions approving the need to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the area.
