Ability to connect and integrate with global supply chains
With the participation of many leading technology corporations and strong support policies from the Government, 2025 is expected to be the boom time of the high-tech industry in Vietnam. Not only creating momentum for economic development , this trend also opens up a solid future for the country in the new technology era.
One of the key factors that helps Vietnam attract the attention of technology giants is its ability to connect deeply with the global supply chain. The International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductors (AISC) 2025 recently held in Hanoi is a clear proof. The event gathered experts and senior leaders from corporations such as Google, NVIDIA, IBM, Meta, Intel, TSMC, Samsung... showing that Vietnam is transforming from a manufacturing center to a strategic technology destination in the region.
The global demand for semiconductor chips and AI technology is constantly increasing, opening up strategic opportunities for Vietnam to participate more deeply in this field. Recent proactive steps show that Vietnam is gradually asserting its position, transforming itself from a country
outsourcing to a key link in the global semiconductor supply chain
Speaking at the AISC event, Dr. Christopher Nguyen - founder of Aitomatic - said that the efforts of the Vietnamese Government in promoting the development of AI and semiconductors are showing the right direction, in line with the shifting trend of the global technology value chain.
In addition to the AISC event, the fact that large corporations such as NVIDIA have committed to investing billions of dollars in Vietnam shows the real potential of this market. NVIDIA, with its plan to build an AI Research and Development Center and an AI Data Center in Vietnam, is placing its trust in the country's long-term development potential. Not only NVIDIA, a series of other corporations such as Qualcomm, LAM Research, Qorvo and AlChip are also actively expanding their investments, contributing to the formation of an increasingly complete technology ecosystem.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) into Vietnam’s semiconductor industry has reached an impressive figure with 174 projects and a total registered capital of nearly 11.6 billion USD. This is a clear demonstration of Vietnam’s attractiveness to technology investors. Not only foreign enterprises, domestic corporations such as Viettel and FPT are also strongly participating in this field with chip design and manufacturing projects for 5G networks and other high-tech applications.
In addition to strong capital flows from the private sector, the Vietnamese Government is implementing a series of specific policies to promote the high-tech industry. The establishment of the National Steering Committee on Semiconductor Industry and the development of a strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050, clearly demonstrate the determination to turn Vietnam into an important technology hub. At the same time, policies to support businesses, reform procedures and upgrade infrastructure are creating a solid foundation to attract investment.
Vietnam needs to continue investing in human resources.
However, to truly become a high-tech hub, Vietnam needs to continue investing in human resources, especially in the field of research and development (R&D). Although competitive labor costs are an advantage, in the high-tech industry, the quality of human resources is the decisive factor. The government and businesses need to cooperate to build specialized training programs, attract talent and create conditions for Vietnamese engineers to master advanced technologies.
Speaking at the forum "Vietnam proactively develops the Semiconductor and Artificial Intelligence industry in the new era", Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the goal of ensuring human resource development for the Semiconductor and AI industries, including actively training 100,000 semiconductor and AI engineers in the coming years, is a big challenge, but Vietnam is focusing on and has solutions to innovate the education and training system to be of better quality, focusing on basic research, English training, popularizing English as a second language; training in a reasonable stream with the spirit of lifelong learning.
