The 2024 WWDC Worldwide Developers Conference - Apple's biggest technology event of the year - took place in the early morning of June 11 in the US.
This conference introduces the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology into iPhone, iPad, Macbook products and aims to increase sales.
Reuters commented that, in the context of unstable sales and strong technology competitors, Apple's deep integration of AI is seen as a method to stimulate the interest of loyal customers and reverse the decline in sales.
However, not all Apple devices have AI features. The integration only applies to devices from iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max - devices sold from September 2023. This integration is expected to encourage Apple users to upgrade their devices and buy new ones.
This is a huge opportunity, said Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives, who estimates that there are about 270 million iPhones that have not been upgraded in the past four years.
Previously, when the iPhone 12 was released in 2020, a large number of Apple users were attracted by the device's 5G connectivity feature.
On the other hand, some analysts predict that consumers will not pay for more AI on their phones. “It is possible that new features and improvements to Siri in Apple’s smart devices will help to limit the decline in revenue, but this is not enough to attract a new group of users,” said Dipanjan Chatterjee, an analyst at research firm Forrester.
“Investors clearly want a more comprehensive and ambitious strategy from Apple when it comes to AI,” noted Tejas Dessai, an analyst at Global X.
According to Apple's latest annual report, in the fiscal year ending September 2023, iPhone revenue reached $200.6 billion, down from $205.5 billion the previous year.
