Chinese electronics company Anker has raised prices on a fifth of its products sold on US e-commerce platform Amazon, the first move the company has made to pass on costs to US shoppers.
Anker is one of the largest sellers on Amazon, offering a wide range of products from power banks to phone cases.
According to data from e-commerce service provider SmartScout, Anker raised prices by an average of 18% on about 127 products, starting with a handful of products on April 3 before expanding from April 7 when US President Donald Trump announced his decision to increase reciprocal tariffs on Chinese goods by 50%.
The move comes after China's largest cross-border e-commerce association said many Chinese companies have started raising prices on Amazon or considering leaving the US market because of high tariffs.
Many brands agree with this approach, says Scott Needhan, founder of SmartScout.
Meanwhile, Amazon has not commented on the above information.
Previously, Anker - a company with 5,000 employees, annual revenue of about 3 billion USD and the largest seller on Amazon - also informed investors about the possibility of increasing product prices, because many of its partners are Chinese companies that are subject to high taxes.
In addition, Anker plans to expand its market to Europe and Southeast Asia.
According to the latest announcements, the US is currently imposing a total tax rate of 145% on Chinese goods, while Beijing is imposing a tax rate of 125% on US goods, marking a new escalation in the tariff war between the world's two largest economies./.
