In its conflict with Russia, Ukraine is counting on additional weapons systems from Germany. The Eastern European country will soon receive specially armed armored personnel carriers, but not the Fuchs armored vehicles.

The above information was confirmed by the German Ministry of Defense on June 2.

The ministry's statement came in response to earlier reports that, in addition to Leopard tanks, Gepard guns and Marder armored vehicles, Germany could continue to send armored vehicles to the country during the conflict in Ukraine. According to the European Security and Technology magazine, Kiev could receive refurbished German Fuchs armored personnel carriers.

Berlin insists that no Fuchs armored vehicles will be delivered among other "armored fighting vehicles," referring to personnel carriers from Flensburg-based manufacturer FFG.

According to information, purchasing vehicles from the FFG company is significantly cheaper than Fuchs vehicles. Over the past few weeks, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany has been talking about his desire to have Fuchs vehicles, as Kiev needs them for the upcoming counteroffensive.

Earlier in the day, the German government announced it had purchased additional military equipment to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

A contract has been signed with the German arms manufacturer FFG to purchase 66 troop carriers and the new vehicles will be delivered to Ukraine to transport infantry, a spokesman for the German Defense Ministry said.

The Düsseldorf-based arms manufacturer Rheinmetall is not involved in the deal, but has offered to supply Ukraine with Fuchs armored vehicles. German government sources say that armored vehicles running on Fuchs tires are six to seven times more expensive than the FFG armored personnel carriers that have been selected.

It is not known when the FFG armored personnel carriers will be delivered to Ukraine, and the amount of money spent on purchasing the vehicles has not been disclosed.
