According to the AVP, the Russian army is advancing along the entire width of the front. In addition, the Russian Aerospace Forces regularly intensify air strikes, destroying Ukrainian fortifications, causing heavy losses to Kiev forces. At the same time, the Russian army actively uses aviation to attack the positions and rear of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which significantly complicates the defense of the city by Ukrainian forces. Russian troops also advance north of Krasnoye, encircling the city from both flanks. On the eastern outskirts, Russia occupies new positions along the Dolgaya fringe in the northern region of the Novy sub-district.

On April 16, the Russian army also took control of the village of Kalinovka, which is also a stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. South of the Canal sub-district, the Russian army broke through the eastern bank of the Seversky Donets - Donbass canal. On the other side is the front edge of the main Ukrainian defense line and the Chasov Yar-Kurdyumovka road. The Russian Aerospace Forces continue to suppress the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this area.

Ukrainian Armed Forces begin to withdraw

Russian advances have also been recorded in the Kleshcheevka and Chasov Yar areas. Russian forces have approached houses north of Chasov Yar. Ukrainian troops have also been seen leaving the first houses. Fighting has begun in the Chasov Yar urban area.

Currently, combat operations are being carried out by “night hunters” of the 98th Guards Ivanovo Airborne Division. The attack is being carried out in the suburbs and near residential areas.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are in a difficult situation as the Russian army continues to advance despite fierce resistance. The successes in Kalinovka and Ivanovsky as well as the advances in the eastern suburb of Chasov Yar show that the initiative is now completely on the side of the Russian army.

Experts note that the liberation of Chasov Yar will be crucial for the further advance of the Russian army in Donbass. The city is an important crossroads and controls the approaches to such large settlements as Kramatorsk, Slavyansk. In addition, the capture of the city will allow the Russian army to improve its position for an offensive on the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk cluster.
