Mourinho pinched his opponent's nose. |
An argument broke out between Jose Mourinho and Okun Buruk after the Turkish Cup quarter-final at Ulker Stadium Sukru Saracoglu. Mourinho suddenly reached out and grabbed Buruk's nose, causing the Galatasaray coach to fall to the ground in pain.
Immediately, many Galatasaray players rushed to protect Mr. Buruk and created a chaotic scene. The referee also showed Mourinho a red card.
This is not the first time Mourinho has had a physical outburst against a colleague. In 2011, during the Spanish Super Cup, the Portuguese coach was also fined for poking Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova in the eye.
According to the Telegraph , the Turkish Football Federation will open an investigation. Mourinho is at risk of being banned from coaching for a long time.
The strained relationship between Mourinho and Buruk is not new, with Fenerbahce's head coach filing a defamation lawsuit against Galatasaray last month after Galatasaray accused Mourinho of calling Burk and his players "monkeys."
Back in the quarter-finals of the National Cup, Fenerbahce had home advantage but let Galatasaray lead 2-0 thanks to a brace from Victor Osimhen. The home team only managed to reduce the deficit with a goal scored by Sebastian Szymanski in the first half's injury time.
The defeat to Galatasaray early this morning (April 3) put Fernerbahce at high risk of a trophyless season. Before that, Mourinho and his team were eliminated from the Europa League. In the national championship, Fenerbahce is also 6 points behind Galatasaray.
