The Southeast Asian nation will reportedly receive $5.3 billion from the Trump administration for security and counter-narcotics programs.
Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Teresita Daza confirmed earlier this week that Washington had notified the country of "a partial exemption on US foreign military assistance to the Philippines."
Ms. Daza affirmed that the Philippines and the United States "remain committed to the treaty alliance and work to further enhance defense cooperation and interoperability."
Regional exemptions include $336 million to modernize the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Coast Guard, and $870 million for programs in Taiwan.
The move comes after the US announced that it would provide $500 million in foreign military assistance in 2024 to help modernize the Philippine security forces.
