Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on March 2 that he believed it was possible to salvage relations with his US counterpart Donald Trump after a tense meeting in the Oval Office, but that negotiations should continue behind closed doors.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that Kiev will not cede any territory to Russia as part of the peace deal.
The Ukrainian leader said he was still ready to sign a mineral exploration deal with Washington, describing his March 2 discussion with European leaders about sending a draft peace plan to the United States as an important step forward.
In a live-streamed meeting on February 28, President Donald Trump accused his counterpart Zelensky of disrespecting the United States and pushing the world to the brink of World War III, as well as questioning Washington's continued support for Ukraine in its three-year conflict with Russia.
Speaking to reporters on March 2, Mr. Zelensky thanked European countries for their support, expressed disappointment about the February 28 meeting in the Oval Office, and expressed his desire to continue dialogue with Washington.
President Zelensky said he did not think the US would stop supporting Ukraine, because as the "leader of the civilized world", Washington would not want to help Russian President Vladimir Putin.
However, he affirmed that he was ready for all possible scenarios.
On the same day, March 2, leaders of European countries, representatives of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU) attended a summit in London to discuss ways to promote a peace plan for the conflict in Ukraine.
Here, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer affirmed that European leaders agreed to develop such a plan to send to the US, in the hope that Washington would provide security guarantees that Kiev considers essential to deter Moscow.
On the same day, Russian MP Konstantin Kosachev dismissed hopes that Europe could push through with the plan.
“And if Ukraine should expect anything, it can only be progress in Russian-American relations,” Kosachev said in a Telegram post.
