On September 30, Fatah Sharif Abu al-Amine, head of Hamas in Lebanon and a member of its overseas command, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the El Buss refugee camp in southern Lebanon. His wife and two children were also killed.
According to Ahram Online, this is the first time El Buss, one of 12 Palestinian refugee camps in southern Lebanon, has been targeted since Israel began its recent airstrikes on Tyre and elsewhere in the country that have killed more than 800 people and injured hundreds more.
According to the Lebanese National News Agency, the confirmation from Hamas came hours after the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said three members of the group were killed in an airstrike on the Kola district of Lebanon's capital Beirut early the same morning.
The attack comes amid rapidly escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon since the Israel-Hamas conflict erupted in the Gaza Strip. Hezbollah supports Hamas and is seen by Israel as a threat on its northern border with Lebanon.
