The Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet and Phan Thiet – Dau Giay Expressways have been put into operation for more than 7 months and have brought many practical benefits to Binh Thuan in terms of socio-economic development. However, the expressway has not been directly connected to Phan Thiet City – the economic and cultural center of the province, which is also home to the Ham Tien – Mui Ne National Tourist Area, so many vehicles have to turn at Ham Thuan Nam or Ham Thuan Bac before entering Phan Thiet, which is quite inconvenient.
Currently, to enter the center of Phan Thiet City, vehicles traveling from the expressway on the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet route must pass through the Ba Bau intersection to turn onto National Highway 1A - My Thanh, Ham Thuan Nam District, about 2.6 km long, then continue traveling along National Highway 1A for about 13 km into the center of Phan Thiet City. Since the expressway was put into operation on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay section on April 29, 2023 and the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet section on May 19, 2023, the Ba Bau intersection area and the intersection to National Highway 1A often experience serious traffic jams and congestion, especially on weekends and holidays, when this road surface is only 14 m wide with 4 lanes for motor vehicles, no mixed lane, motorbikes share the motor vehicle lane, and the dirt shoulder on each side is 0.5 m wide. On the other hand, currently on National Highway 1A - My Thanh and National Highway 1A, the traffic volume on the route is very large. Currently, the residential areas on both sides of the route are very crowded, the traffic speed on the two routes is mainly greater than 60 km/h, so with a distance of only 16 km, the travel time takes more than 30 minutes (not to mention the time when traffic jams occur), causing discomfort for residents and tourists when driving on the route.
On the contrary, if vehicles from Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway want to enter the center of Phan Thiet city, when reaching Ma Lam intersection, they have to turn onto National Highway 28, which is not convenient for traffic. Therefore, adding another intersection connecting Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway to the center of Phan Thiet city (already added to the planning of Binh Thuan province), forming a route with the role of gateway to the city center is very necessary.
The route connects from the highway to Le Duan Street at Phan Thiet Railway Station and urban routes in the city center; at the same time, it also connects the coastal route DT.706B, DT.716 to move to Phan Thiet Airport and the coastal urban areas of Ham Tien - Mui Ne. Thereby, it will open up a new development space to promote local socio-economic development. The additional intersection will be about 16.4 km from Ma Lam intersection, QL 28 intersection and about 9.5 km from Ba Bau intersection. The route connects the highway to the center of Phan Thiet City within the area around Phan Thiet City, Mui Ne National Tourist Area, connecting to Phan Thiet Airport, ensuring to meet the requirements according to regulations.
The expressway connecting to Phan Thiet City under the provincial planning is about 10.6 km long, the starting point is the intersection of Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway at about Km225+120, Ham Hiep commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, the end point connects to Le Duan street in front of Phan Thiet railway station in Phong Nam commune, Phan Thiet City. Currently, this new route has been proposed by the Provincial People's Committee to the Ministry of Transport to build, making not only Phan Thiet people but also millions of tourists waiting to enter Phan Thiet more conveniently...
