Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Van Ba Son - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that for tourism, biodiversity is very important because a healthy environment is a key factor for the competitiveness of the tourism industry.
"Coasts, mountains, rivers and forests are major attractions for tourists worldwide. Biodiversity lies at the heart of nature-based tourism products, such as wildlife watching, scuba diving or tourism in protected areas.
"Tourism connects people with nature and can promote responsibility for environmental conservation and protection if done sustainably. Biodiversity is an important resource for developing sustainable ecotourism," said Mr. Van Ba Son.
On the contrary, sustainable tourism activities contribute to preserving and conserving ecosystem service values, raising awareness of conservation, helping to protect human living environment, ensuring harmony in living environment for flora and fauna.
At the same time, sustainable tourism helps exploit resources scientifically, thereby providing socio-economic benefits and services to local communities, providing jobs, improving livelihoods and contributing to poverty reduction.
