After Tet, weight increases rapidly, people become slower when they gain weight, making it difficult to concentrate on work, making many young people determined to go to the gym, exercise more and even diet.

In addition to working out, I have to eat a diet that includes no fat, cakes, or pork, and limits white rice to reduce starch. There were days when I drank chicken breast smoothies and "closed my eyes and held my nose to drink it because it was too disgusting to eat."
Mr. KHANG (District 5, HCMC)
This seems to be quite common with many young people. Determined to exercise and lose weight, but the journey is not easy or effective immediately.
Pay millions to lose weight
Thuy Trinh (24 years old, living in Binh Tan district, Ho Chi Minh City) boasted that before Tet she was only 48kg. However, after 11 days of Tet holiday, her weight is now 55kg. Not to mention that before that, her face was acne-free and rosy, but after the holiday ended, acne appeared all over her face, haunting her.
Her weight gain and tight clothes made Trinh feel more reluctant to interact with others. "I had to take three days off even though it was only my first week back to work because I couldn't concentrate," Trinh said sadly.
She started a strict diet, drinking only water in the morning, eating sweet potatoes or corn at lunch, and only daring to eat a handful of boiled vegetables or fruits at night.
Trinh admits that the journey to regain her figure and mental health after Tet is still very difficult. She eats little, hunger lingers all day, she is always lethargic and sleepy, making it difficult to concentrate on work, but she has to try "because she hasn't lost any weight yet".
Ms. Dieu Trang (31 years old, in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) said that suddenly climbing from 51kg to 57kg after a few days of Tet holiday "is unacceptable". Gaining weight, she felt like her eyes were squinting, affecting her psychology, and female hormones also made her menstrual cycle irregular.
Spending more than 20 million VND on topical medicine, oral medicine, and a hot compress machine, Ms. Trang is determined to at least get her weight back to the level it was before Tet.
"It's really the price to pay for the Tet holiday of eating and drinking without restraint. Now every day I only dare to eat two apples for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and skip it," said Ms. Trang.
Mr. Khang (in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) boasted that for more than two weeks he has been straining himself to go to the gym for at least two hours every day. After Tet, his weight increased from 78kg to 85kg, even though he is only 1.65m tall. He clearly felt pain in his knees and toes when walking, and tiredness when standing up and sitting down.
"I was introduced to a three-month exercise package, with specific measurements and examinations for 85 million VND. I was afraid of getting sick so I signed up right away," he said.
What type of reduction should be considered carefully
Mr. Phan Bao Long, founder of BYE BÉO weight loss center, shared from the perspective of a person majoring in chemistry and biochemistry, losing weight by applying fat-dissolving drugs or taking weight loss pills is not good. He said losing weight by suppressing appetite will definitely affect the brain's nerves, causing insomnia or anxiety.
Losing weight by increasing the fat burning process with drugs can cause a faster heartbeat, which is quite dangerous. The mechanism of preventing and inhibiting fat absorption with drugs can cause diarrhea, digestive disorders, and reduced absorption... while fat is very important.
There are currently two groups of fasting for weight loss: scientific, strategic fasting, and "extreme fasting". Scientific fasting is effective because it is based on research, with testing, measurement, and monitoring of the body's physiology and health before, during, and after maintaining the diet. The menu and food quality are also strictly controlled.
Meanwhile, the "extreme fasting" school of total abstinence, forcing itself to the point of muscle fatigue, exhaustion, hormonal disorders, reduced metabolism, reduced ability to burn energy... is extremely dangerous. "Extreme fasting can also weaken the immune system and lower blood sugar," Mr. Long advised.
Nutritionally, dieting and reducing rice intake to cut out starch is completely wrong. The starch in whole grain rice is very good for health and cannot make you fat. Here, choosing the quality of food when dieting is very important because otherwise, you will accidentally force your body to work harder to detoxify because of dirty food.
Mr. Long shared that the weight loss and detoxification methods that are still seen on TikTok such as infusing coffee grounds into the colon, drinking lemon juice mixed with salt... are all strange phenomena and not true to their nature. They can help you lose weight immediately but affect liver and kidney function while many people pay little attention to the liver even though it plays an important role in the weight loss process.
"People often only focus on weight, while weight is related to metabolism, metabolism and body functions. Not to mention paying attention to the lungs because poor oxygen quality and poor lung function will not burn energy," Long analyzed.
The whole company loses weight
Mr. Pham Hoa (31 years old, Tan Phu district) said that he and many other colleagues in the interior design company decided to go to the badminton court three times a week. After Tet, almost everyone suffered from weight gain and poor health, so the company badminton club was established and currently has eight members.
The group's principles include many criteria, including the mandatory requirement that no one is allowed to be absent for any reason. "Everyone works in the same company, has the same working hours, and is of similar age, so when work is over, they all go out together. If we wait for this person or that person to go home and prepare for this and that, the group will probably disband after three days," Mr. Hoa laughed.
Ms. Phuong Thanh (25 years old), a member of the group, said that she had only started playing badminton after Tet. She had also gained a few pounds, so she considered the goal of losing weight as a motivation to go practice with the group. "I have never played sports before, but now I am addicted. I play a few matches in the afternoon and feel much healthier, less tired in the neck and shoulders, and less pressure from work," Thanh laughed.
