(CLO) Meta's AI chatbot will use Reuters content to answer users' questions in real time about news and current events, marking the latest AI collaboration between a major tech company and a news giant.
In a statement on October 25, a Reuters spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Reuters has partnered with technology providers to license trusted event news content to power their AI platforms. The terms of these agreements remain confidential."
Through its partnership with Reuters, “Meta AI can answer news-related questions with summaries and links to Reuters content,” a Meta spokesperson said. Reuters has had a fact-checking partnership with Meta since 2020.

Reuters will reportedly be compensated by Meta for access to Reuters' journalistic content under a multi-year deal.
The deal comes as parent company Facebook has been reducing news content on its services after coming under fire from regulators and publishers over misinformation and disagreements over revenue sharing.
Meta AI, Meta's chatbot, is available on services including Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram. The social media giant did not disclose whether it plans to use Reuters content to train its large language model.
Other companies including OpenAI, the innovator ChatGPT and the Jeff Bezos-backed startup Perplexity have also established similar AI partnerships with news organizations.
