St Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said two buildings were damaged and residents were evacuated without any injuries. Local residents said they heard a strange noise followed by an explosion and fire on Saturday morning.

“I heard the siren because I had just opened the window, then there was a pop, flames and the apartment filled with smoke, the window flew out,” local resident Elena told Reuters. She said this happened after 07:00 local time on Saturday.
Video from the scene showed the facade of a building damaged with blown-out windows, damaged balconies, broken glass and debris on the ground. Russian media reported that the incident may have been caused by a Ukrainian drone being shot down while heading towards a nearby fuel depot.
In another development related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on March 3 that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and Chinese Special Envoy for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui said that discussions on the Ukraine solution must include Russia.
The Chinese envoy met Mr Galuzin on his second trip to Europe to push for a political solution to the Ukraine crisis. The tour will also include visits to Poland, Ukraine and Germany.
“A very positive and thorough exchange of views took place on the topic of the Ukrainian crisis,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website.
“Any discussion on a political and diplomatic solution is impossible without Russia’s participation and taking into account Russia’s interests in the security sphere,” the statement added.
