The kick seriously injured Dzeko. |
At 39, Dzeko is still a mainstay of the Bosnia & Herzegovina national team. He just helped the national team win 1-0 against Romania in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round in Europe on March 22. However, he left the field injured after a strong collision with an opposing defender.
On his personal page, Dzeko posted a photo of his bruised face with the spirited message: "All or nothing". The image showed him with serious injuries, with two bruised eye sockets, a swollen and bloody nose, making viewers shudder. Dzeko was forced to return to Türkiye for further examination.
"The Fenerbahce striker looked like he had just been through a real battle, with stitches in his eye and bandages on his hand," The Sun described. Earlier in the season, Dzeko posted a picture of blood flowing from his eye after another collision.
Mario Balotelli teased: "You look handsome". Radja Nainggolan added: "Nice appearance". Anderson Talisca sent words of encouragement: "Be strong, brother". Goalkeeper Ifran Can Egribayat called him "Legend".
Dzeko won two Premier League titles with Man City. He is the captain and most capped player in Bosnia & Herzegovina's history with 140 appearances, and also has the most goals with 67.
Unfortunately, with the above injury, he cannot participate in the match against Cyprus on March 25. Head coach Sergej Barbarez shared: "I think Edin Dzeko's nose is broken. He is not in the dressing room. I don't have exact information yet, but the situation seems serious."
