"After careful consideration, I have decided to temporarily stop playing professional tennis to focus on pickleball," Ly Hoang Nam shared at the launch event of the brand he is an ambassador for.
He continued: "For now, I focus on participating in domestic pickleball tournaments. With the current development, we have, are, and will attract many of the world's top athletes. That is an opportunity for me to learn, compete, and gain experience. After that, I will step out to try my hand at the Asian arena. If I feel I can compete, I will continue to try my hand at other arenas such as Europe and the US."

Hoang Nam said that pickleball attracted him because this sport is suitable for Vietnamese people, easy to access, and anyone can play. "At first, I just tried to see what was interesting about this sport, but then I was impressed and decided to jump into it to challenge myself and find something new," Ly Hoang Nam shared.
Ly Hoang Nam's remarks were made at the ceremony to announce him as the brand ambassador of Kamito Pickleball rackets on the morning of March 19 in Hanoi.
At the end of 2024, Hoang Nam gradually switched to pickleball. After more than half a year of not competing in tennis, Hoang Nam dropped in the world rankings (744, updated on March 17). He is still the highest-ranked Vietnamese tennis player on the ATP World Tour.
With a solid and resilient physical foundation after many years of playing professional tennis, Hoang Nam easily adapted to the new sport and won 7 consecutive championships in grassroots tournaments.
Earlier this year, Hoang Nam participated in his first national pickleball tournament, stopping in the quarterfinals of the men's singles event, but winning the men's doubles event.

Ly Hoang Nam was born in 1997, from Tay Ninh, is the best tennis player in the history of Vietnamese tennis.
He won the 2015 Wimbledon junior doubles championship, becoming the first Vietnamese tennis player to win a Grand Slam event. He also won the SEA Games gold medal in two consecutive years in 2019 and 2021, affirming his position as number 1 in Southeast Asia.
