The reason Man Utd recruited Jonny Evans

Coach Erik Ten Hag hopes temporary signing Jonny Evans can pass on his experience and help Man Utd's young players.

"I think helping each other is a good idea. This contract is beneficial for all parties involved," Ten Hag said on July 19 when asked about the recruitment of Jonny Evans.

According to Transfermarkt , the contract between Man Utd and Evans is only valid from July 18 to July 31. The 35-year-old midfielder will train and participate in some matches during the pre-season. After that, Evans can move to another club.

According to the Dutch coach, Evan can train physically and help Man Utd improve their level. "We know he is an experienced player, but also a very good person and a great personality. I also think he has great authority and can help the young players," Ten Hag added.

Evans' contract with Leicester City expired this summer. The 2015-16 Premier League champions will have to play in the First Division from the 2023-24 season, having finished third from bottom last season.

Evans came through the Man Utd academy. In nine years with the first team, the Northern Irish centre-back made 198 appearances, contributing seven goals and seven assists. In 2015, Evans left Man Utd to join West Brom. He played for Leicester City from 2018 to 2023.

Evans has won three Premier League titles, two League Cups, four Community Shields, one Champions League and one FIFA Club World Cup with Man Utd. With Leicester City, he won the 2020-2021 FA Cup.

In the friendly match Man Utd beat Lyon 1-0 on the evening of July 19, Evans came off the bench. Until the end of July, the "Red Devils" will have friendlies with Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid and Dortmund. They start the 2023-2024 Premier League with a match against Wolves on August 14.
